Wow...sorry to have stepped on the toes of your virtue signaling.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 5:46 amWhy didn't you just do that yourself, and honor him by highlighting some of his most noteworthy achievements, instead of posting what could easily be construed, or, if you will, misconstrued as a snarky, racist and demeaning remark about a famous, influential and much respected black guy? After all, wasn't he one of your own? Don't you take some measure of pride in his notable accomplishments? Do you dispute his courage and the worthiness of the cause for which he demonstrated, and was almost murdered?

probably best if you stay in your lane on this one, lest you end up in that all too familiar ditch.

Isn't the conception of 'virtue signalling' a wonderful thing?
Subgenius tries to think of something that will make Lewis look less admirable (In effect 'Yeah, but did he actually pass any laws? No? So what was the point of having him in the House?'). Gunnar calls him on that, thereby making it clear that subgenius is (surprise!) simply trying (and failing) to find some way of detracting from the respect being paid to the life and reputation of this heroic and decent congressman.
No, subgenius: Gunnar was not signalling the presence of virtuous behaviour, in himself or anybody else. He was doing 'small-minded and impotent malevolence signalling', and his finger was pointing straight at you.

Notice subgenius' response? It was to the post he could quickly read as he popped in, scrolled quickly on his phone, and could thumb out a dumb drive-by. Vroom vroom!

I guess so?
I did not write anything to that effect. Don't impose your own prejudicial views and presuppositions on my post to the conclusion of you suddenly having premonitions for "what I must have really said". You are not magical in that way.
See countless presupposition flaws prior.
"making it clear"?
So, by your reasoning - what I posted is not what it means, but rather, it means something else - something you have contrived and remitted with some ambiguity - and in fact, what it means is only inasmuch as clarified by another poster who says what you mean even though you did not say it.
...
so, yeah..."clear".
I had simply asked a question that was a buttress to his life and reputation. It appears that it is you that are making inferences to a "one trick pony".
me thinks you do not know the usage of "virtue signaling".
nope. he, like you, was simply running into the street yelling accusations about a reality that you insist exists. Your own prejudice and pettiness imposed an alternate meaning on a rather clear post. Perhaps if you read the words instead of "feeling" the words you would find comprehension to be less alarming and unsettling for you.

Re: John Lewis: A great warrior who never raised his hand
Gosh. We got it wrong. Subgenius's enquiry sprang from a genuine desire for information. Those of us who thought we detected a mean-minded attempt at a sneer at a great man were wholly mistaken. Our suggestions to that effect have caused him both indignation and distress ...
So let's give it to him: nope, John Lewis, in common with the great majority of members of the House, was not the author of any major legislative initiatives.
Subgenius: has your admiration for John Lewis's life achievements been significantly affected by this news, one way or another? Do tell.

Re: John Lewis: A great warrior who never raised his hand
Let me repeat this question for subby:
If not, what was the real point of this remark?
subgenius wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 5:02 am
Has anyone compiled a brief list of Lewis's legislative accomplishments yet? Such a long tenure in Congress and so many awards, surely it would be of great interest here.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
