Unfortunately, I don't know of any good cops. The cops in Hineseville Ga, where my Dad lived while stationed at Ft. Stewart, were corrupt as all get out. Later I learned that the entire dept was ousted after it was revealed they were dealing drugs to military. When I was on my mission, I knew one member of the Church who was a cop in Santa Ana, and he was one of the most vile racists I had ever met. He had a particularly strong contempt for Asians for some reason. The cops in my town are assholes, and I know people who look foreign are treated very differently, especially at the detention center in Canton.
That proves that racism in the police force has more to do with your perception, predjudices snd bias than actusl reality.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Nevertheless, there are such things as good cops, and they are what this thread is supposed to be dedicated to. I recognize that there are far too many bad cops, and I am sorry you had to encounter so many of them, but they are not what this thread is supposed to be about.

No, it doesn't. It only proves, if anything, that Icarus' has been unfortunate enough to experience proportionally a high number of bad cops.

My experiences with cops, on the other hand, have been almost exclusively good ones.

It seems contradictory to me to say that most cops are good cops and that systemic racism doesn't exist. If most cops are good, why do so many of them fu-ck up during encounters with African Americans? And why do cops tend to cover for each other after those fu-ck-ups?

Could it be... the system?

I actually think it's more accurate to call it cultural racism... or maybe systemic racism with a culture of cover-up. I do tend to think that most cops are good but sometimes do bad things because they are poorly trained. I also think the police force can attract a certain kind of person that can be particularly problematic for good law enforcement.

I really do find myself on both sides of the BLM/police issue. I just think a lot of cops are either in denial or enjoy their power/corruption.

That is the real problem, I think. Unfortunately, whenever people are granted any kind of power or authority, there is almost always an accompanying temptation to abuse that power or authority for one's benefit or ego boost. We have to learn to be continually on guard against that temptation.
