In those few innocent centuries between Gutenberg and the Web, we didn't think it would be this way. We thought that the difficulty of generating content was our only big problem left.

We had solved the previous big problem, hunger, with agriculture. But that left people with brains evolved for the constant problem-solving of hunting and gathering doing repetitive drudge work all day, because it did feed the kids, and there was nothing to do at the end of the day besides drink until your idiot neighbour's jokes sounded funny.

Any actual story, in any actual book, will beat your neighbour's jokes hollow. Even a mediocre book is the distilled product of hundreds of minds, after all, so no wonder it comes across better than the belches of a guy so drunk he thinks that your jokes are funny. Sadly, though, there's just one book in town. The priest keeps it locked up. That's the problem, we thought.

It took us five hundred years, but we solved it. Everything billions of people can say or perform, billions of people can now hear and see, in the palms of their hands, any time. And now we're all saying, "Oh."

That would appear to be one of these things. What looks like a cannon is a so-called recoilless rifle, which is kind of between a gun and a rocket launcher. I used to know people who were trained to use larger versions mounted on jeeps; it was an obsolete anti-tank weapon used by reservists for practice. Firing a 75mm cannon from a scooter would knock you back a fair bit, but as the name implies the recoilless rifle has no such kick. Instead it has a wicked backblast. Do not stand behind one.

The Vespa-mounted RR was apparently a paratroop weapon. Air dropable weapons are only ever half-serious anyway.

Bubbles are a response, not a root.

I am sorta mostly lost in the metaphor. Ya know what, PG, nah, I am lost as crap. I can't tell if we are talking about little bubbles that, once they appear, are less dense than whatever is holding them so they rise up until they pop and become something else... or, “F”, I have no idea.

I see the information overload organized in folders and silos. People filter themselves, then organize in groups that affirm what they want to hear and know. They do not organize in groups of strangers with the common bond of not knowing crap about “F”. (Do not edit that line moderators, I stole it form Ozark, it is appropriate for TV.)

The formation of these silos, in my opinion, has a stronger foundation in safety, belonging - and more importantly in 2021, victimization. Being a victim is a lot more important to these people and these silos than healthy food, exercise, family time, religion, clean air and free and fair elections. And “F” off all y'all if that feels personal, it is true for both sides of these conspiratorial lunatic fringe silos. It applies every bit as much to Q as it does to people that believe they know someone that belongs to Q (but actually doesn't). In fact, believing in a derivative of a conspiracy theory rather than believing the actual theory is probably exponentially kooky, but it is one hell of an entertaining silo to live in, I suppose.
