kwaku on poligamy: None of us were there so no judgment allowed?

Answer: None of us were there during the Jim Jones incident so we can't judge?
I sincerely hope RFM notes that whatever else, we know Smith lied to Emma about it and those involved acknowledged it included sex (at the Temple Lot trials).

That doesn't translate differently just because we didn't live through it.

I joined in the discussion about Book of Mormon. They seem to be having a meta-debate. It's "Secular atheism leads to unhappiness and the collapse of society" vs "The church is an institution whose primary interest is self-preservation."

"Unless you have knowledge of marriage in Ancient Sumeria then you can't comment on Mormon polygamy."

I guess there won't be a knock out blow in the debate. But some of the things that MM are saying will be very quotable in the future... and they will look quite silly.

Wow the most milktoast Mormon just said he would happily marry multiple women, presumably to have sex with all of them. And he thinks it's mandatory eternally, implying that his current wife will be one of many.

Incredible what this religion does to people. As Christopher Hitchens said, religion easily turns good people evil.

To be honest, I don't think attacking the leadership and idea of the church is a winning argument. The people already out might be excited about seeing that but it lacks the weight to punch through to maintain the sense of objective criticism of facts. Let MM dismiss the importance of the restoration and gospel for cultural coherence.

"Your side is burning down our buildings and sneak a porn star into our temples. Your side would be the one with the guns."

That's where this debate inevitably goes..

They're really pounding the narrative that "we can't agree on how we got here to the debate."

Because they created a false narrative. If they only wanted to debate Bill Reel, they could have simply backed out of the debate. But they wanted to hammer home the "Bill Reel is a chicken" lie during the debate that they supposedly didn't want to have.

Kwaku, kwaku, settle down brother. Stop with the emotional name calling. It doesn't work and NNN isn't part of Consig's team.

It's like so many family court hearings I've done over the years where I'm dealing with pro-se litigants who get a little emotional.

I stopped watching after RFM wrapped up the counterpoint saying they make things up and lie. It seems like the chance to debate Mormon issues can't break out of the personal. It won't change minds, and instead probably solidify people in the positions they hold.
