Was Joseph any good at singing the Pirate Ditty, "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum"?

Captain Kidd
John Dehlin provided a fascinating podcast about Joseph Smith's treasure hunting including Captain Kidd's hidden treasures. Smith's heart was set on finding treasure and money.

ANCIENT INHABITANTS
Recall that mother Smith described how the boy Joseph would provide the following details about the inhabitants of this continent;
Note in particular that Lucy says, "ANCIENT INHABITANTS", not to reference inhabitants that existed merely hundreds of years ago but a vast number of years ago in which the very definition "ANCIENT" is applied. Young Joseph was actually describing ancient Book of Mormon peoples before he ever acquired gold plates. He was telling stories from the Book of Mormon before ever having translated a single Egyptian character with his head in a hat!
We can be sure that Mother Smith's use of the word "ancient" applies to the Nephites because she uses the word "ancient" three other times in her autobiography to match the one highlighted above:
1. "Joseph had been instructed that the plates would be carried there by one of the ancient Nephites"
2. "the engravings thereon all of which has the appearance of ancient work and curious workmanship"
3. "Prophets of ancient days and angels even the Great God"
Along with the concept that Joseph was describing the ancient inhabitants BEFORE he ever got gold plates is that he described two specific factors in relation to the people:
1. "their cities"
2. "their buildings"
The point I am making is that Joseph visualized all these things in his head prior to having his head in a hat! He described the ancient inhabitants of this continent within their cities and the very buildings in which they lived. I think it is completely reasonable that he also contemplated and expressed the very location of these ancient Nephites -- where their cities were located.
Where? Here in America! Lands surrounding the Smith family farm and lands to the south. Mounds and ruins of every kind across the land. Treasures to be had whether from Captain Kidd or slippery treasures buried by the ancient inhabitants who previously inhabited the land.
Lucy Mack Smith wrote:During our evening conversations, Joseph would occasionally give us some of the most amusing recitals that could be imagined: he would describe the ancient inhabitants of this continent; their dress, mode of travelling, and the animals upon which they rode; their cities, and their buildings, with every particular; he would describe their mode of warfare, as also their religious worship. This he would do with as much ease, seemingly, as if he had spent his whole life with them.

Well, duhh. And previous logistics were definitely something Joseph would have visualized in his mind as he was inventing his preconceived story for his sucker-scribes. Here, SEE (seer) for yourself:
- And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord spake unto my father by night, and commanded him that on the morrow he should take his journey into the wilderness.
- And we did go forth again in the wilderness, following the same direction, keeping in the most fertile parts of the wilderness, which were in the borders near the Red Sea.
- And it came to pass that we traveled for the space of four days, nearly a south-southeast direction, and we did pitch our tents again; and we did call the name of the place Shazer.
- And we did come to the land which we called Bountiful, because of its much fruit and also wild honey; and all these things were prepared of the Lord that we might not perish. And we beheld the sea, which we called Irreantum, which, being interpreted, is many waters.
And now for the real kicker, the big one:
- And it came to pass after we had all gone down into the ship, and had taken with us our provisions and things which had been commanded us, we did put forth into the sea and were driven forth before the wind towards the promised land.
Joseph Smith was inventing his story out of whole cloth and not just translating words appearing with a stone in his hat. Unless you believe he was learning everything for the first time, word for word, line upon line, precept upon precept -- YOU must admit that Smith was visualizing his story in how *HE* wanted to make it because *HE* was inventing it!
That is the whole purpose of this freaking thread!
1. Smith saw the Arabian coast in his mind and on a MAP!
2. Smith saw the American coast in his mind and on a MAP!
I don't know what it is going to take to convince some people on this board as there is a deafening silence from those who are actually reading this thread and having a hard time facing the music and admitting Delmarva is the ticket. Readers are however welcome to believe Smith really did translate gold plates in a hat and DIDN'T visualize Arabia or Delmarva on a map. To those people, I say, "Dumb".

Was there a cutoff on the Susquehanna River to take Hagoth to Polynesia and provide Dr. Midgley a much-beloved Maori story?

Nope. Captain Kidd never sailed in the Pacific. But according to witnesses who heard about the boy-prophet's encounters with treasure, Kidd was seen to sail up the Susquehanna River in search of Hagoth's treasure!

Joseph F. Smith and the brethren who were spreading faith promoting make-believe stories about Hagoth's people being Polynesian ancestors is a bunch of nonsense -- unprovable bunk. But did Joseph F. Smith ever say where Lehi landed his ship or where Zarahemla is? He's quick to provide revelation that Hagoth sailed to Polynesia in order to spread the silly gospel of Mormonism because he has nothing to prove. It's just his word and his story. It means nothing!
But now we know that Captain Kidd was seen sailing up the Susquehanna River and if he can do it so can Hagoth! The Delmarva model has been proven to show that Joseph Smith actually visualized persons of interest in having sailed up the Susquehanna River. This further substantiates the legitimacy of this model!

just to be a minor nuisance I am uncomfortable with the idea of somebody building a really big boat to go up the river. Checking Wikipedia about the river, I find the following:
Before the Port Deposit Bridge opened in 1818, the river formed a barrier between the northern and southern states, as it could be crossed only by ferry. The earliest dams were constructed to support ferry operations in low water. The presence of many rapids in the river meant that while commercial traffic could navigate down the river in the high waters of the spring thaws, nothing could move up.
Well perhaps an author got carried away with the idea of big when relatively small crafts would be more realistic for moving up the river.

adding,
I decided to actually open a Book of Mormon and check, i think I gather the story is that where this boat actually went and what become of it was unknown. I suppose one could imagine it struggled with an upriver course or one could imagine it turning around to explore South Carolina or Florida. Though it is clear more than a couple of people imagine it was in the Pacific ocean headed to California or the south Pacific.

As long as the story is conceived with curious construction (perhaps a glitch in the seer stone matrix?) the practicality of the ship's journey needs some leeway. Sort of like the Nautilus in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.huckelberry wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 7:38 pmWell perhaps an author got carried away with the idea of big when relatively small crafts would be more realistic for moving up the river.
