Trib’s Second Article on John Dehlin

Growing up I heard all the bad stories about apostates. Those who objected to Joseph Smith and got what was coming to them. They had nothing worth saying and they were just angry and jelli, as they say. Listening to them was as bad as listening to liars and fools. Sometimes I get the impression that anyone who criticizes Dehlin is not worth listening to, is but a lying jealous crazy person--at least according to his buddies and apologists. As it turned out much like Joseph's critics they all worked for him or with him at one time.

I don't know, maybe Dehlin's religion will grow to the size of Joseph's one day. Maybe someday the great critics of Dehlin will point out how he took advantage of a young lady who was not very credible in her time. His affair will be crowed from the loudest of objectors, perhaps. And defenders will say "there's no evidence he had sex with her" trying to recover his reputation.

Granted, I gave too much ear to Rosebud and JPatterson. KK (nearly typed another K there) seems to have credibility issues. Those 14 others who put their name on some terribly ambiguous written (written by KK of all people) complaint sounds like, I mean, something...until you read the damn thing...and then learn it was basically an unofficial note passed around on tiktok or instagram or Twitter or something. Its kind like what the hells going on?

Mr Patterson filed complaints on Dehlin all because comparing Dehlin's personal income to other leaders of non-profits shows he's getting too much? How did anyone take that seriously? I really don't know.

I also once, to my regret, joined up on some Facebook (which I rarely used to that point) ex-LDS group on a whim, of sorts only to learn it was headed by a few folks who spoke of the first presidency of ex-Mormonism (Dehlin, Bill Reel and RFM) and how since they were men, we ought to be suspicious. The 3 reveled in power and influence all because they were Mormon men who held the priesthood at one time, so they were bad. I requit Facebook.

Anyway, thanks Ex-Mormons for reminding me Mormons aren't that bad after all.

I don't have a dog in this fight. It's just weird that you would claim that John doesn't want to pay taxes, when you're now reversing yourself and saying you knew all along that he does. Why would you claim this if you actually know how it works?

You can’t seriously be this obtuse.

John doesn’t want to pay taxes ON THE DONATIONS HE RECEIVES as business revenue (although he could go the S-corp route but he would still have to pay self-employment tax).

He also has a vested interest in the donations he receives being tax exempt, as he has several very high-paying donors who want the ability to write off their donations. If he turns MSP into, say, an S-corp, he not only pays self-employment taxes, his donors can’t write off their donations.

Hey consig, since you’re such good friends with Natasha why don’t you ask her how she and Dan Wotherspoon (both of whom were getting paid by Open Stories Foundation at the time as independent contractors) determined John’s salary immediately following the Rosebud incident when John decimated the Open Stories Foundation board of directors? Also ask her how it’s possible that they could have made the decision “at arms length” when they were both also getting paid by the foundation?

This is very different from what you were saying before. But at least you've had some time to Google how not-for-profits work, so I guess everybody wins.

If you knew that Bill Clinton was being paid double what the 90th percentile of non-profit leaders similar to the Clinton Foundation make, you would be just fine with that?

I hate the Clinton's, but I couldn't care less, as long as it's legal.
