So you had this information when you made your claim about Thrive not being a nonprofit?
No, I did not. I searched the database and didn't find a non-profit under the name of Thrive. Obviously I must have done the search incorrectly or misinterpreted the results.
Two Thrive organizations now exist, according to UDOC. One is a non-profit registered to Clint. One is a DBA owned by Center for Religious and Secular Progress, owned by John.
It's not uncommon for someone to use a name as a DBA, then decide to make a new organization named after the original dba. It doesn't appear that anything is being done with the LLC.
That's good information, thank you. If that was the case, though, why wouldn't the original DBA be shut down?
I don't suspect you monitor the internet for trademark violations, just Dehlin.
I don't just sit around monitoring John for trademark violations. That's silly.
If you google "Thrive John Dehlin" the third or fourth image is that of John with his Thrive hat on, next to a Thrive hat from the organization that originally created the brand. That was what alerted me to a potential trademark violation, not because I was out looking for one.
I did some digging and realized the original org came first.
The logos are almost exactly the same, and the best I can tell they're not generated from a specific font family (i.e., you couldn't just create it in Word), so the only conclusion I can come to is that John copied someone's logo.

John explained this in a recent podcast... specifically about all of this. For critics like you.
This really shows all of your criticisms of him are in bad taste and just a personal vendetta rather than actually caring about the truth.

Probably because no one thought about it. You'd be surprised at how sloppy businesses are about details like this. The current dba registration expires in July. I expect it will either be transferred to the Foundation or, if they're sloppy, it will expire. I don't expect the LLC to renew it unless it gets down the wire and somebody wakes up to the fact it's expiring. Whatever it happens, unless John is doing something with the LLC in a way that confuses it with the Foundation, it's not a big deal. It's just paperwork details.
he/him we all just have to live through it,
holding each other’s hands.

Fair enough. Thanks for the context I was clearly missing.

??
John stated on the podcast that he set Thrive up as a for-profit under his name and then changed it to a non-profit under Clint's name? I must have missed that.
Yes, this one incident is a clear indication that anything and everything I have said and shown is complete garbage. Wait, you specifically are avoiding commenting on the trademark issue. Let's hear your rationalization for that one.

You're welcome. The last one of these type of situations I had to deal with involved someone who set up an LLC with an almost identical name as his existing LLC, obviously with the intent to transfer assets. And then he forgot to transfer the assets. He had a habit of forming LLCs with near-identical names, which made untangling who owned what a nightmare.

Apparently you care more about it than the trademark holder.
