Count them up
Okay, let's do a word count for the hell of it.
BEGUN
(6) Old Testament
(6) New Testament
(8) Book of Mormon
(1) D&C
(0) PofGP
BEGAN
(103) Old Testament
(74) New Testament
(340) Book of Mormon
(8) D&C
(20) PofGP
START
(5) Book of Mormon
It's obvious that the word "start" snuck past Smith's loose lips five times while DICTATING the Book of Mormon and his scribes dutifully wrote down the little indiscretions. Nobody has noticed it, until now. I'd say that's amazing.
Now, Kishy may excuse it by saying he was translating and trying to find the right words for the expression. I say BS, give me a break! He was telling a story and citing words that came to his creative mind while in the process of making up his novel. There was NO translation! It was a dictation and he made it all up out of thin air except for whole portions he copied directly from the KJV.
Critics who defend the prophet on the premise that he is translating have lost sight of the big picture and are still brainwashed. There was no translation process! It was a fabricated dictation and storytelling.

Yeah, well, your approach to all of these issues is a mile wide and an inch deep. Of course Joseph Smith wrote this stuff, but “start” and “adieu” are not the real problems. I mean, conceivably God could have had him use any words, and the Book of Mormon’s own teachings even discuss the issue of language limitations. In any case, the hilarity of Christian Hebrews centuries before Jesus is all the anachronism you need. Full stop.
Either one believes this stuff for spiritual reasons or one rejects it. If you’re going to reject it, there are a thousand handy reasons. Start and adieu are actually not as handy or persuasive as others.

I have no problem with you engaging in interesting word studies. I think that’s great. I just don’t see smoking guns here. Your enthusiasm is still charming, however.Shulem wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 10:45 pmOkay, let's do a word count for the hell of it.

I agree! They aren't key to disproving anything really. It's more evidence to add on the pile or heat up the steamy turd in which Smith produced. I'm providing more evidence and thought provoking ideas to show how the whole production was a sham and that Smith made particular mistakes that he would not have made had he known he was making them. He got sloppy! I'm surprised it passed editing and was actually printed. Those five blunders made it through! It was a miracle.

And I love you too, Kishy.
They ain't smoking guns like the King's name or the 1-day narrow neck. But it's interesting and I'm having fun sharing my thoughts with the board.

So, I am in the mood to say this, and I know you probably won’t care and won’t receive it well. The Book of Mormon is a book, and it is a lot more interesting and remarkable than you seem to think. I get that you hate the LDS Church, and that is all well and good, but it makes no sense for you to hate a book. The Book of Mormon has very little to do with what made you unhappy about the LDS Church. Joseph Smith, regardless of what you were taught, did not found the LDS Church. Brigham Young did, and BY’s interpretation of what Joseph Smith taught is what brought you to where you were so unhappy. I really don’t care for you calling the Book of Mormon a steaming turd. Not so much because the book has feelings as it makes you look like an ugly and ignorant person.Shulem wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 12:32 amI agree! They aren't key to disproving anything really. But you do you. I am going to tell you that you act kinda like an unhinged person. Ranting about “start” as though it proves Joseph Smith got “sloppy.” I guess it does in your imagination. There is tons of stuff in the Book of Mormon that is not consistent with what you imagine it had to be for whatever reason you demand it. I am not sure why you think it must be this or that, presumably because the LDS Church told you so. Or some early participant in the process of its creation said this or that.
Please continue with the word studies, however. It is good data and interesting in its own right for sure. But I will tell you that your bizarre crowing and ugly insults about inanimate objects and Joseph Smith get old.
That said, I know you do all of this self-stimulation to get your own rocks off, and you won’t let me spoil your exhibitionism.

Kish, I believe in three turds:
1. Book of Mormon
2. Doctrine and Covenants
3. Pearl of Great Price
They ARE steamy turds and they are the imagination and lies of Joseph Smith. Now, with that said, I do not hate Joseph Smith for pooping those turds. I forgive him. But, I do not forgive the current LDS Church leading back to Brigham Young. Those turds are in the sewer and will ever remain there.
I hope that explains how I feel. I will continue to do what I do here at Discuss Mormonism. You are certainly used to me by now so all is good. Yeah, I'm a strange one. That's for damn sure.

Re: Shulem challenges RFM’s magical powers
Just for giggles, I checked on Shakespeare's use of the word: Start.
https://www.shakespeareswords.com/Publi ... arch=False
It's used 78 times in his plays, 6 times in his poems (The Rape of Lucrece, and Venus and Adonis), and 0 times in his Sonnets. Judging from the examples, the vast majority of these refer to the word in the context of either staring, or startling, or waking (in both their transitive or intransitive forms). But, it is also used a few times in terms of beginning.
As an aside, it's my hope that one day Consigliere will abandon that UPSTART crow from Stratford and join us Oxfordians. But I digress...
