FAIR Tries to shut down Vogel's Video

I don’t look at my gmail account as often as I should. This afternoon I discovered that I had received a notice a month ago (4-12-22) of “Copyright takedown request received for your YouTube video.” The offending video is my “Vogel Response to John Gee” published on Jan. 19, 2022 and has more than 2,000 views more than Gee’s original video.

This video is a point-for-point response to Gee’s claims during an interview with FAIR president Scott Gordon in December 2021.

In response, YouTube notified me: “we do NOT plan to remove your video(s) at this time.”

After YouTube notified FAIR of its decision, FAIR reiterated their complaint and asserted that their “video is used almost in its entirety, beginning about 47 seconds in, and including all but about the last 5 minutes.” This is false. Adding up the bits and pieces interspersed with my commentary, only about half is used and occupies about one-third of my response video.

Listen up FAIR leaders—Instead of trying to suppress my video how about producing a video or some other work responding to my criticisms. That’s what real scholars do.

YouTube is notoriously bad about fair use and even they saw how ridiculous FAIR’s copyright claim was.

I can see why they want your video removed. It was simply one of the best takedown videos I’ve ever seen, not only within the context of Mormon discussions, but across the Internet writ large. You absolutely decimated Mr. Gee’s reputation (though Mr. Gordon has no real repute to speak of, so he’s just collateral damage by simply existing).
