I think it will be interesting on a member/congregational level now that manuals, etc. seem to be focused on more broad and foundational items, and less on minutiae, to see how much folk doctrines will (re)gain a strong foothold.

Maybe it'll add a bit of the pioneer color back into Mormonism.

This institution has a one generation shot at recovering this offensive mess that they created.

They need to make church fun again. If they do it, they can make up whatever doctrine they want in whatever manual they want and call it whatever the hell they want. If they don't, the broadness and minuteness won't matter. The priesthood manual is about as relevant as the DCP/ Trump/ Interpreter/ SeN manual for further study of The Book of Abraham. If both are wrong, but the kids are having a good time, who cares? If both are right, but the kids are having a good time, who cares?

I just did the search again, and the very first result was the full manual that contains that section:

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/bc/ ... 22_eng.pdf
“We recommend that people marry those who are of the same racial background generally,
and of somewhat the same economic and social and educational background (some of
those are not an absolute necessity, but preferred), and above all, the same religious
background, without question” (“Marriage and Divorce,” in 1976 Devotional Speeches of
the Year [Provo: Brigham Young University Press, 1977], p. 144).

This makes sense if those same young men wish to be cast by God into Outer Whiteness.
