The Word of Wisdom and Diabetes

Post by hauslern »

Doctrine and Covenants 89 instructions on what to eat and drink and what not to drink and eat. Main items the LDS is to do is refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol and coffee and tea.

Research on effects of coffee and prostrate "Men who consumed the most coffee (six or more cups daily) had nearly a 20% lower risk of developing any form of prostate cancer. The inverse association with coffee was even stronger for aggressive prostate cancer. Men who drank the most coffee had a 60% lower risk of developing lethal prostate cancer"

Obesity and diabetes seems to occur more in the southern states.

https://stateofchildhoodobesity.org/diabetes/

Utah also has some stats https://diabetes.org/sites/default/file ... ah_rev.pdf

"There are 652,000 people in Utah, 30.1% of the adult population, who have prediabetes with blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes."

This data suggests the leadership be concerned. Look at some of the images of Dan Peterson Looks like he could lose some weight. I had prediabetes. I went on a good diet and exercise and my Dr found I had kicked my BS out of the ballpark and turned 180 degrees in my weight. I have had to buy new jeans and had extra holes in my belts.

Sugar seems to be the preferred addictive substance of choice among faithful Mormons. No pesky word of wisdom issue there. As you point out, it seems to have had a deleterious effect on Daniel's and many other Mormons' health.

Look at what happened to Larry H Miller former owner of the Utah Jazz. Staunch believer who wouldn't enter the stadium when the Jazz played on Sunday. Developed diabetes, had amputations and then passed away. His son claimed his addiction to fast food killed him. Yet he maintained the word of wisdom faithfully. Death finds its way around any religious tenant.

Had Joseph been an actual prophet with actual access to an actual God with actual foresight into the future...

Recent photos of Dr. Peterson reveal he has lost a lot of weight, and grown a beard since being freed from the regulatory excess of BYU.

The mere fact that there is a 'word of wisdom' forbidding this and that should send up red flags that it's from man, not God, (that's how cults operate), not to mention the fact that studies and scientific evidence have proven that coffee and tea are actually healthy for you to consume, in moderation of course. Both have a ton of antioxidants that flush out toxins from the body as well as providing a myriad of other health benefits for the entire body (good grief, coffee is from a bean and tea from a leaf, both from God last I checked), but since a convicted con-man says not to consume them, they are evil substances, all while Smith was known to drink alcohol when under duress, which was constant because of all of his immoral and iniquitous exploits.  The shenanigans and made-up BS Smith was involved with inventing this religion are staggering.

Interesting. However, we need to be careful.

Alcohol and caffeine can mess with our circadian rhythms and sleep cycles.

It also lowers the risk of other cancers too, new study confirms.
