Those horses so decomposed without collagen didn’t happen to be found lying next to chariots did they?

Exactly. The problems are really insurmountable.

Re: The bad logic of Mormon apologetics.
An excellent rebuttal
Let’s be super clear here. They could not directly radiocarbon date the E. mexicanus fossils bc the fossils didn’t contain enough collagen for radiocarbon analyses. They used stuff next to the fossils to date the bones:
Units II and III (down to just below 2.0 m depth; Fig. 3) contain no directly dated Equus elements (all specimens lacked sufficient collagen to produce radiocarbon analyses). To augment this chronological gap, charcoal, wood, organic sediment, and one freshwater clam shell were used. We completely agree with statements that an assessed charcoal sample recovered adjacent to a skeletal element does not necessarily create a precise age for that vertebrate specimen. However, some radiocarbon dated charcoal samples were recovered from within millimeters of Equus bones.
The area sampled is also missing about 7K years of sedimentation history from 3,220 YBP to 10,180
YBP:
The radiocarbon ages (Table 1; Fig. 3) indicate that there is an unconformity at about 2 m depth with a lack of ages representing the middle and early Holocene, which implies either a lack of deposition or an erosional hiatus during this time interval.
So not only are there Ancient American horse teeth [surprisingly] found in layers associated with the Holocene, but they are in the late Holocene (very recent) and we’re missing the early and middle Holocene that would show a continuation of ancient horses through that time period [if they actually existed all the way through to the late Holocene].
Unless these findings are replicated at another site, I’m going to lean toward this site being an anomaly created by something like erosion or flooding.
ETA: there are 23 (or more?) horse sites in Mexico and there are no other reports of ancient horses in the Holocene.

I'm slightly confused - are the "horses" of the Book of Mormon no longer Tapirs?
