Mormonism makes good people do evil things

Post by LatterDaySkeptic »

The quote "Good people will do good things. Evil people will do evil things. But for good people to do evil, that takes religion" has always resonated with me. Seeing great people that I know say and do stupid things has always confused me and honestly drove me away from the Church. But after thinking about it, it makes sense. Many of the most fundamental religious stories are actually evil stories painted over as stories of love.

Check out the video I made on it:

Let me know whah you all think and if you have similar experiences.

A family in my ward had a son who had a “problem” with masturbation. I put problem in quotes because he masturbated the same way that 99.999 percent of American males masturbate. Of course this went against the rules of his church and of his family. But when he was caught he wasn’t just shamed.

No, his Mormon parents decided he needed to sleep in a tent outside to “keep the sin out of the house.”

I’m sure his parents were otherwise good people, who did this incredibly evil thing to their own son because it’s what the Mormon leaders told them to do. So much harm has been done, and once there is a revelation to change those harmful policies they don’t even bother to apologize or acknowledge all that harm. They throw it on God and say “gee golly we don’t know why God let us do all those evil things for so long.”
