Well. I finally got around to watching the video. She makes, and I think one of our good counselors could weigh in here, a fairly libelous statement @3:05-15 by claiming Dehlin has smeared her name to donors both privately and publicly. That’s a heck of an accusation because it boils down to pecuniary damages.

Any lawyer worth his salt is going to instruct his client to keep the deets to herself during the proceedings of the lawsuit. If you were a real lawyer, you'd know that.

Second, I would LOVE to see John Dehlin try to sue anyone for slander. Dude passes the public figure test easily.

I think a reasonable jury could find “actual malice” from Jenn Kamp’s actions.

Ah, thanks for the correction, but wouldn’t YouTube qualify as a “fixed medium” that can be viewed repeatedly and therefore be libelous, too? I dunno; I’m not a lawyer. Anyway, did you watch the bit between 3:05-3-15? She’s making the claim that she was personally injured through a direct effort by donors to ‘boycott’ her because of JD’s direct involvement. That seems like a pretty serious defamation directed toward JD.

eta: in fact, now that I think about it, isn’t a video considered a publication? The fact that I can point out the exact timestamp of a defamatory statement is akin to pointing to a magazine article on page and paragraph such and such, no? I think “publishing” includes online content such as videos. I could be wrong, though. Counselors?
