Pretty sure you have the sequence of events confused. Joseph attended the Methodist church before he started his church which was before the temple was built. Or did he also attend Methodists churches in kirtland?

April 1836 Oliver saw Jesus, 1844 joined the Methodists.

1848 he got baptized a Mormon again. I don’t know what I’d do. Jesus appearing is just dreaming anyway. I could imagine jumping around to other churches. “Strike me dead, Jesus. How am i supposed to trust a hallucination or dream anyway, ya old creep?”
