Jesus says to love him and hate everyone else in your life…or else. Joseph’s going to be our judge, demanding some worship too. Jesus wanted to marry 10 virgins, hoping to reject 5. Joseph married the ten then added a bunch of other non virgins to his harem. And Joseph did more for our salvation than anyone except Jesus. If we aren’t worshipping Joseph and acknowledging his birthday, I’m guessing he, like Jesus, will put us on ignore. Praise Snith. We have no choice but sing his praises to him. It’s the least we can do.

Doc wrote:, and I read his latest entry on worshipping Smith wherein he made this weird admission:
He makes this same admission every year, and in the context of telling everyone how crazy it is that critics talk about Smithmas. It's almost as if he's trolling for it.

I don't see why they should resist. The scriptures are filled with the significance of dates. Christ born at the meridian of time, he's prophesied by Book of Mormon prophets to come exactly in so many years and days. If Joseph Smith really is the prophet of the restoration, why wouldn't the Father have his birthday right next to Jesus'? And even if it's totally random and the Father is like, "Oh gee! I really didn't plan on that!" then he has to know that in all these other cases, dates are significant and so how could he fault members for thinking it's significant even if it isn't?

And in either case, if the Father intended for them to be together, or it was an accident but the Saints found meaning in it because it sure seems intentional, why not run with a good thing?

It would be like, let's say an apologist has an open jar of peanut butter on his desk and on a shelf there's an unwrapped chocolate bar. The shelf gets bumped and the bar falls straight into the jar of peanut butter. Rather than just taking a big bite of it and admitting it tastes great, the apologist pretends the two don't have anything to do with each other, wipes the peanut butter off of the chocolate and puts on the lid. Takes a couple bites from the chocolate bar and wraps it back up and hides it deep in the closet. Then two days later, opens the jar and has some peanut butter and over exaggerates how the enjoyment of the two treats have nothing to do with each other.

Oh yeah? He was able to avoid impalement by the marriage angel around 40 times and who knows how many times by the concubine angel. Surely that is worth a special day of veneration by Mormons everywhere.

Merry Smithmas! It’s true: this is absolutely a Mopologetic holiday. I think there are many explanations for DCP’s weird, semi-ashamed attitude towards the holiday, but a prominent one, I think, is that it buttresses the claim that Mormons aren’t Christians and that, instead, they mainly worship the man that President Hinckley once called—on national television!—“Jesus Smith.”

Tonight, we shall enjoy birthday cake and sing “O Give Me Back My Prophet Dear!” with gusto.
Dr. Peterson writes:
In honor of the Prophet, whom I revere, I watched this 5.5-minute video, which is accompanied by a powerfully emotional rendition of John Taylor’s “O Give Me Back My Prophet Dear.” John Taylor, it will be recalled, was grievously wounded in the same cowardly mob attack in Carthage, Illinois, that claimed the lives of Joseph Smith and his brother, the Patriarch Hyrum Smith. Elder Taylor went on, eventually, to serve as the third president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I remember them today.
It pleases me that my link to a Smithmas carol played a part in Dr. Peterson’s Smithmas celebration this year. Merry Smithmas!

For our celebration dinner, we made a bust of Joseph Smith out of milk jello, to be served ahead of the meat.

May the tradition shine through the darkness of the ages to enlighten all to Smith-ereens! Joy and Gladness to all, Seer stones only for the 2nd anointed, as per Santa Claus (it ain't my fault - don't yell at me)...
