John has certainly contributed to the anti-Mormon sentiment held by more than half of professors.

Besides DCP, I can't think of a more crappy scholar. For God's sake, Deseret Book even refused to sell John Gee's book. How low can you go?

I worked with Nibley, first as a student, then as a source checker, and finally something of a colleague. Nibley was about my grandfather’s age, and I am younger than any of his children, so there was always a distance.

Well, that certainly helps explain Nibley's many problems with his footnotes.

For example, when I first got to Yale, it took me a while but I finally found a place to stay. After about a week, the fellow who owned the apartment, one of the Yale faculty, found out I was a Latter-day Saint and kicked me out for that reason.

I guarantee this didn't happen. If John Gee did get kicked out it was because he was so weird and freaked everyone out.

A couple of weeks later I got a letter. Just before going to Yale I had participated at an international conference. My paper was decently received but the letter was from the editors of the proceedings volume rejecting my paper on the grounds that I was a member of the Church.

I don’t doubt his paper was rejected. I do doubt it was because he was a Mormon rather than the content of the paper. John could always post a redacted pdf copy of the letter to show this was the case. He won’t though.
