Kiwi57’s disdain and criticism are prizes to be sought and savored once won.

I am a Mormon. President Nelson is the one with a baffling perspective on the word. I don’t consider it necessary to change my dictionary every time Big Brother mandates it.

Kiwi, my friend, this is how everyone who is a member of -- whatever it is you want to call it -- talks about their own faith and heritage. Nobody thinks it's disrespectful including you.

Kiwi's anger at those who see things differently has delivered a decade or more of inadvertent entertainment on Dan's blog.

And of course Kiwi isn't offended by the church's permanent nickname, "Mormon". None of us Mormons are. There is close to two centuries of fond embrace of the moniker.

Institutional use of name will return. And Kiwi will then find something else to be offended about.

An interesting point was made:
Chubby Steve

"And, I firmly believe, Joseph Ratzinger has now entered into a new life after decades of attempting to serve God in the best way he could."

I think this is an important statement and one which we can find common ground with the Catholics. I think most Catholics who are familiar with Mormonism would agree that President Nelson has also spent decades attempting to serve God in the best way he could.
Peterson would absolutely agree with this.
I absolutely do not believe that Pope Benedict XVI would have been even slightly outraged at my summarizing his mortal life as “decades of attempting to serve God in the best way he could.”

…Moreover, my personal view of our universal human condition is that “attempting to serve God in the best way we can” is the best that any of us can hope to achieve here in mortality. My description of Pope Benedict as having done so was intended to praise him, not to denigrate him.
In that sense, it is absolutely clear that the highest praise Peterson can post about lds leaders as they move on to the afterlife, is for him to assert that they have “entered into a new life after decades of attempting to serve God in the best way [they] could.”

That’s Peterson, being as respectful as he possibly can.

And now for a very nice comment

It was genuinely moving to note that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's last words were “Lord, I love you,” as reported by his longtime secretary, who in turn was quoting a nurse who helped cared for the 95-year-old former pontiff in his final hours. I truly hope such an expresion of love could be my own last words.
