In an article that is sure to make DezNats drool with excitement, almost 40% of Mormons in the United States identify with Christian Nationalism. Based on my personal experience, I would say the 40% number would be substantially higher if they only polled Utah Mormons. Mormons, making America great again.
Some snippets from the article:
Those who identify as Christian nationalists overwhelmingly trust far-right news outlets such as One America News Network, Newsmax or Fox to deliver their news.
A majority of Christian nationalists say the Muslim faith is at odds with the American way of life, between 58% and 69%.
Speaking to the results of the survey at a Brookings Institution forum Wednesday, Jemar Tisby, a historian and author of “The Color of Compromise” and “How to Fight Racism,” concluded: “White Christian nationalism is the greatest threat to democracy in the United States today.”
“There’s a strong positive correlation between frequency of church attendance and likelihood of being a Christian nationalism adherent or sympathizer,” said Robert P. Jones, president and founder of PRRI. “Christian nationalism adherents are more than six times as likely as Christian nationalism rejectors to attend church weekly.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, proudly endorse the label. Former President Donald Trump called himself a nationalist, and the survey finds Christian nationalists have far more favorable views of Trump than the general population.
I don’t see how the church as an international faith-based organization wins regardless of whether they appease the international body or the domestic Christian Nationalists.
Advancing a greater proportion of leaders and international interests from their global body would probably be more sustainable long-term. But this might alienate influential segments of the American body who are religious nationalists; of the most privileged, multi-generational-core of the church; or both.
Power clings to power and this will be a difficult transformation for many American members.
On the other hand- watching members devolve into Christian Nationalists and embrace the crazy wing of the American Right will only accelerate the church’s decreasing membership/activity rate in regions such as in Canada, Australia, NZ, the EU and elsewhere.

On the bright side, it will accelerate the sales of Bowie knives which are the religious symbol of the Deseret Nazi movement.

Speaking of DezNats, they've even gone after Kwaku on Twitter by calling him the "N" word followed by laugh emojis.
Terrible commentary on Smith through Nelson et al in terms of ability to actually teach correct principles. This is what you get when the doctrines & policies are two faced, ever changing and never apologized-for.
I read the linked article with some interest. I wish it was more clear as to what they meant by Christian Nationalists. The phrase sort of has a meaning but is also very loose. I know of no central agreed upon set of beliefs. Instead a loose collection of right wing stuff is referred to. Yes there has been a longstanding rightwing campaign under Christian garments.
I found this piece more specific and disturbing.
"Four in 10 Americans (41%) agreed that discrimination against white Americans is as big of a problem as discrimination against Black Americans. But among avowed Christian nationalists (85%) and sympathizers (73%) who are white, overwhelming numbers agree that discrimination against whites is as big a problem as discrimination against Blacks.
About a third of Americans affirm the core tenet of so-called great replacement theory, the belief that immigrants are “invading our country and replacing our cultural and ethnic background.” But 71% of avowed Christian nationalists and 57% of Christian nationalist sympathizers agree the replacement theory is taking place."
I do not know why this type of self concern and ignorance is Christian but I guess it is diagnostic indicator of a social group located in some Christian communities.
An almost religious zeal for supporting Trump
An overt hostility towards LGBT issues
A suspicion of government, including vaccines
A yearning for war and doomsday and preparation for such
A distaste for scientific consensus and search for unsubstantiated alternatives
A growing isolation from the secular world community
Basically Mormons are becoming more insulated and backwards. John Larsen predicted that the fundamentalist elements of the religion would concentrate as the progressives continued to flee the religion.

Even for some people who consider themselves to be "faithful" Mormons, their adherence to the ideas you list supersedes their religious beliefs - for example, the denunciation of Pres Nelson when supported vaccination (which he must have known was a risky move).

Hey the cherry on top is the "whittlers" can come back into vogue as well...
