Apostles: racing to Francium-223

Post by Dr Moore »

From the pulpit of April 2023 GC, Elder Allen D. Haynie said,
Unlike vintage comic books and classic cars, prophetic teachings do not become more valuable with age. That is why we should not seek to use the words of past prophets to dismiss the teachings of living prophets.
The loyal businessmen-brethren continue to discover new ways of elevating “living prophets” (a.k.a., the current first presidency), because too many things said by LDS prophets do not age well. They’re proven to be wrong, short-sighted, and uninformed due to generational biases, like the ideologies of every other group of conservative old men.

Time, it seems, does not vindicate the prophets.

When I was young, the prophet’s words were held up to be long half life compounds. Enduring, not decaying.

Now we are being told that the ongoing restoration is like building a “gospel boat” out of chemicals with extremely short half-lives. Just how short?

If nothing said can be expected to age well, then the upshot is members can never hold the brethren to account for anything they say. It’s the great and powerful Oz, ever able to make up a new excuse prophetic utterance. Or rather, it allows every sitting leader to play Texas sharpshooter.

According to this page, Francium-223 has a half life of 22 minutes. That seems a good intermediate goal for church leaders. Let everything said potentially expire in 22 minutes, allowing all statements to be revised post facto in as little as a half hour, penalty free.

If the prophet is God's oracle then what is being said is don't use past words by God to contradict present words by God, that or LDS prophets really don't speak for God.

Which is it?

The point I hammer home again and again in my shows and videos. From the comments I receive, a lot more are getting it, but not the TBM's so much. We can be charitable and give 'em time...

It sounds to me like the Brethren's favorite social media app is SnapChat. What you send expires and is gone for good within minutes.

It's funny how prophets are presented in scripture so differently than they exist in reality. Samuel the Lamanite predicted Christ's birth exactly 5 years before it happened and the destruction of the Nephites 400 years before it happened. Well, that's prophecy.

By the Haynie the horrible's standard, you'd never be allowed to vindicate Samuel unless he happened to live through the events he foretold.

TBM lurkers ... break through the gaslighting. These supposed "prophets" are incredibly ordinary and whatever they predict is more than likely some magic trick if proven true or they had inside information prior to predicting whatever they predicted.

Nelson couldn't predict covid-19. The "inspiration" today is just normal business practice that is then packaged as something more than it is. Families were important well before Joseph Smith appeared on the scene and well before the modern church made it their thing. That's the rub ... the church just looks at what will sell and then back fills in "revelation" after the fact, taking credit where credit is not due.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

The current living prophet's teachings don't age well either. The POX revelation had a half life of 3 years.
