On the other hand, I disagree with Bill Reel when he tries to force the false dilemma, and I paraphrase, of "either he is protecting Parker or he is drawing out racists, but he can't have it both ways." Honestly, I don't see why not. The problem is not him having it both ways. The problem is that he thought drawing out or trolling racists by doing something that is substantively racist is acceptable in any way.
These Mopes seem to think that a person's good intentions should serve as a get out of jail free card. But they really don't. Yes, the tiny fanclub that Mopologists cater to may not have a problem with the constant trickle of tone deaf gestures they make, but they will always be a marginal and noisome oddity because they don't get that the tone-deaf gaffes and boners actually are off-putting. Yes, I find it annoying that people confidently conclude that Boylan is a racist because he did this. At the same time, there is no doubt that he exhibited very bad judgment and deserves to pay for it as long as he remains unrepentant.
Boylan and Parker should learn a lesson from Hanna Seariac. Remember when she got a little too cozy with the whole DezNat phenomenon? The DezNazis all loved her, followed her on Twitter, and she had that Brigham-loving blog? Suddenly she shut all that down and is now writing for the Deseret News. Hannah is smart. Boylan, Smoot, et al. are definitely high IQ dudes, but they lack common sense. Pynakker and Reel were so right when they asked the rhetorical question: "Can you imagine us even contemplating making up an imaginary Black apologist persona to hide behind?
No! And the bizarre thing is to listen to Boylan calmly go through his rationale for making up Nygren as though it made the whole thing OK. I mean, it is kind of like he said the following to a safety officer at an elementary school:
