Why are Christians the last people on earth to understand what Jesus was talking about? The more they believe in their ignorant interpretations of God (who doesn't even exist) and religion, the less likely they are to grok the concepts that the mythological Jesus character is claimed to have been attempting to teach them.

I’d maintain that Jesus was full of mixed messaging. I’d like to see a batter example of mixed messaging than a god who tells people they have to hate their family and love their enemies. There’s hardly much consistent in the mythological character. But on the bright side it’s what we should expect from peoples 2,000 years ago if they wanted to make up a mythological character.

Nonetheless, if they believe in asinine insanely stupid nonsense like the Second Coming etc. they are not high quality thinkers.
How stupid does a person have to be to believe that some God character gives a flying “F” if their relatives are baptized in the Temple etc? Seriously? Is their God that damned stupid? The Mormon/Christian God, if he were to exist would have to be a damned moron.

Why are they so rare?

Sadly, there are a lot of people who are complacent and content with being spoon fed rather than digging into the word. Also, sadly, many churches don’t teach deep theological doctrine. I had never experienced expository teaching until I was an adult, and that was when an interim pastor came to our church, and only until they found a new pastor with a theological degree.

The new pastor who came after that had a degree in New Testament Greek. I remember him once telling us something to the effect you all don’t want me to teach you theology like it was boring or something. In my mind, I’m thinking, yes we do.

Anyway, after being exposed to expository teaching, hubs and I went on the search for a church that had expository teaching/preaching.

The problem is that Christ’s words only compose ~20% of the New Testament, and that comes off as wonky thanks to the four ‘biographers’ poor accuracy and thoroughness. There’s also the matter of duplication, so we don’t really have a lot. If you were to only read JC’s words, set up chronologically, and from one account, he comes off as a self-important, semi-unhinged radical Jewish rabbi who was against Roman occupation. That’s it.
