Persons Who Identify as Transgender
A transgender person may be baptized and confirmed if he or she is not pursuing elective medical or surgical intervention to attempt to transition to the opposite of his or her biological sex at birth (“sex reassignment”).

Mission presidents should counsel with the Area Presidency to address individual situations with sensitivity and Christlike love.

A person who has completed sex reassignment through elective medical or surgical intervention must have First Presidency approval to be baptized. The mission president may request this approval if he has interviewed the person, found him or her to be otherwise worthy, and can recommend baptism. The person will not be able to receive the priesthood, a temple recommend, or some Church callings. However, he or she can participate in the Church in other ways.

Because it’s most definitely a theological question according to the Mormon church:

God of the gaps, right? Or are there no gaps here? Only facts, no beliefs. No room for people to have different views because it is just the facts that one viewpoint is right?

I don’t see how that is the case. I mean, live and let live is my view. Let Mormons say there is no transgenderism and let the progressives say all of this is just settled science. I don’t see that there is any kind of convincing consensus about that being actually the case. But I am about freedom and mutual respect so . . . .

Wikipedia accepts as fact that there are 72 genders. Reading them is a real mind twister. Stargender (an option falling under xenogender) is my favorite, so maybe that is who/what I am.

Going back to my OP, I’ll remind the goodly reader I was unaware of Mr. Peterson’s stance on the transgender issue until today. I didn’t really understand the Mormon church’s most well-known Mopologist had taken a firmly anti-trans stance. For example:

That blog entry has six (!) decidedly anti-trans links. I think I’m just trying to wrap my mind around the Mormon church’s doctrinal relationship with the transgender issue, but perhaps it’s exemplified through Mr. Peterson’s blog posts? I can’t imagine the reality-dysphoria a transgender Mormon might feel upon reading his posts.

I believe the LDS Church has refused to recognize transgenderism for something like 4 decades or more. This is nothing new.

Who would have thought. A major issue with DCP is, as he's expressed, he's been able to sail through life in many ways and find a lot of enjoyment. Other people's problems don't affect him, so why should he care, or even refrain from poking fun at them?

I just now received an anonymous note celebrating my illness and gleefully predicting my early death. Your note was a nice contrast.

DCP's anonymous serial email stalker is back too. Just in time, we hadn't heard much about the dozens of emails he gets from the unhinged individual every day in a while.

RFM's recent podcast comes to mind. In it, he shows how easily Mormons lie to other Mormons. People that he respected regularly made up stories to impress others or impart some important spiritual witness.

Seems to really be a unique and fascinating Mormon trait. It doesn't matter if the story is true, it matters how it makes you feel.
