Hales obviously doesn't have much confidence in his apologetic works, otherwise he would be here explaining his reasoning to us. Come here and defend them Bro. Hales. The truth will come out and perhaps souls will be saved from error. You have a duty as a priesthood holder to righteously show us where we are mistaken.
None of their scholars have any confidence in their information, it is why all the in-house publications now exist. The outhouse publications won't have them... :D

Hales
Egyptologists tell us Joseph Smith didn’t restore the missing fragments of Fac. 1. Instead, he repurposed them to correspond to the revelation of the Book of Abraham that he had received (just as he had received other revelations).
If the original Egyptian scribe of fac. 1 drew something different that Joseph Smith’s restoration, then we would not expect the Book of Abraham to be written anywhere on that papyri. Likewise, Joseph Smith’s dealings with the other facsimiles would be repurposing, rather than restoring their original meanings (this is obvious with fac. 3 as well).
The critics can say that Joseph Smith thought he was translating fac. 1 and he was wrong. Victory for the critics, but not much of a victory. The Book of Abraham remains a revelation.
If you care to read the BYU Studies issue, you will find other helpful explanatory information."

Hales
repurposing

I suspect this is going to become a new buzzword in Mormon apologetics. But it's not even in Joseph Smith's vocabulary. This terminology is a direct contradiction to what Smith said he was doing. He was not "repurposing" anything pertaining to the Egyptian papyri. He was RESTORING the original to proper form and content. He claimed to literally translate. That is a fact. The apologists be damned for throwing their founding prophet under the bus. Apostates!

John Gee, you're a dumb ass and a liar! It sucks to be you. Come to Discuss Mormonism so I can beat you up in front of everyone.

The demand for outhouse publications has dropped off even in MAGA circles. The 1968 Sears Catalogue is still regarded as a classic.

Hales
repurposing

So, it's the restored repurposed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Is that what Smith was doing, Brian? Was it also a repurposing of gold plates in order to come up with the Book of Mormon via a catalyst translation?

"Repurposing" is DOA, baby! We are going to have fun destroying that argument and making apologists look like fools.

Hey, Brian, what's the king's name in Facsimile No. 3? Is that also repurposed?
