The Purple Heart requirements:

Eligibility for a Purple Heart applies to service members who suffered a wound: 1) As the direct or indirect result of enemy action, and 2) The wound required treatment by a medical officer at the time of the injury.

I guess we are to believe the “scratch” was sufficient to meet these requirements.

Heh. I found the same thing you did. I did find an incomplete database of PH recipients, but it is only searchable by name. It would be nice to be able to search for Purple Hearts awarded to Captains in June and July while serving under the umbrella of the Third Army: since they weren't in combat until August, there are probably rather less than a ton of them.
