Here is a written announcement: https://www.fairlatterdaysaints.org/blo ... more-40546

It’s being published by the Interpreter Foundation and Eborn. That’s not a good sign.
OMG! Who wrote this crap?
Through his writings, lectures, and leadership Daniel C. Peterson has played a vital role in fostering understanding and unity among Latter-day Saints, as well as others interested in learning about the faith. His commitment to scholarship and faithfulness are truly exemplary, and his remarkable ability to blend intellectual rigor with good humor and compassion have touched the lives of many.

It’s actually a fairly large insult to the LDS apologists who are actually trying to foster unity and mutual understanding.

Oh, wow—this is epic! I can’t wait for this festschrift to be published! Isn’t it nice that the Interpreter Foundation has published a book of celebratory essays about its own President? And as President, did Dr. Peterson have a hand in overseeing this book? Regardless, I have little doubt that this will wind up being a historic event.

As for the retread of his “Defender of the Year Award,” or whatever this stupid award is called—is there really no one else who merits consideration? What about Robert Boylan or Mike Parker? And correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a video of DCP shedding actual tears the first time he received this award, and exclaiming, “I don’t get emotional! I’m Scandinavian!”??

I notice that Richard Bushman is listed among the contributors to this DCP book. Did he write something original for the occasion? Or did the Editors harvest something that had already been published in order to make it appear as if Bushman supports Mopologetics?

Thank you for your inspiring comments, Dr. Scratch.

I'm reminded of a job I had near the beginning of my career at a small startup. At Christmas, they had a drawing with a bunch of small prizes like 40$ gift cards. As part of the same event, they also gave gifts to all the senior executives that were 10x 20x the prizes one could win from the drawing. That ended when somebody pointed out how lame it was given the hardships some of the employees on the low-end were facing in their lives. Anyway, the main take away was, what could an executive do with 40$? And if you give a gift to one, you kind of had to give gifts to all of them.

Once Midgley had such a big deal made over him merely for his informal seniority as a mopologist, how could they not also do the same for DCP? Meanwhile, the folks like Mathew L. Bowen who has a relevant Phd and must have 150 articles published there get nothing. Short of showing up at a critic's house with a crowbar, he'll likely never win anything.

He would probably have to produce hiakus in chiastic form or something to win something.

Some of the essays for DCP's Festschrift were just leaked:

Anything about Dr. Peterson's Keynote, Understanding History Backwards, about retrofitting LDS history?

I only caught the last half. There wasn’t much to it. If it was a preview of his new film, it will bomb hard.

A festivus for the rest of us. Feats of strength would be interesting with the mopologists.
