Lehi or Lehigh. Just another data point.
https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/searc ... ry%7Cevent
In her history, Lucy Mack Smith spells the Book of Mormon character, Lehi, as Lehigh. A simple spelling error? Perhaps. Or maybe just maybe Lucy was spelling Lehi exactly like another Lehi she and her son, Joseph, were very familiar with. The Lehigh River and the Lehigh Valley.
I know this subject has been speculated on for years but I did find it interesting to learn how Lucy spelled Lehigh, I mean Lehi.

Thanks Craig. That's very interesting.
Several years ago, you also posted something very interesting which I think deserves its own paper/publication:
Many years ago, DCP was dismissing these name parallels as nothing more than chance that could be repeated by looking at any map. I challenged him to pull out any map (of anywhere in the entire world) he wants and to try to find as many similar names as the Vern Holly map in a similar geographic size as the Vern Holly map. After years, DCP still hasn't responded. I'm confident it can't be replicated by looking anywhere else in the entire world.

So, in addition to the many names/geographic parallels between Joseph's backyard and the Book of Mormon, you also found historic parallels. I don't think the apologists can explain this away. I would be most interested to see them try.Tecumseh also known as Tecumtha or Tekamthi (or as Teancum in the Book of Mormon) and Moraviantown (known as Morianton in the Book of Mormon) are historically linked since this is were the Shawnee Indian Chief Tecumseh was killed in a battle just like Teancum was involved in a battle with the people of Morianton as described in the Book of Mormon.
See Alma
35 And it came to pass that the army which was sent by Moroni, which was led by a man whose name was Teancum, did meet the people of Morianton; and so stubborn were the people of Morianton, (being inspired by his wickedness and his flattering words) that a battle commenced between them, in the which Teancum did slay Morianton and defeat his army, and took them prisoners, and returned to the camp of Moroni. And thus ended the twenty and fourth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
And
Alma 51: 29
29 But it came to pass that they were met by Teancum, who had slain Morianton and had headed his people in his flight.
So in all it was a good afternoon of searching the internet...I didn't expect to find this last gem in my search. Its amazing what a little google search can turn up.

I am sure most already know this but the apocrypha in the Bible used by Smith had the name Nephi in it.
Etymology of Nephi
Based on a non-Latter Day Saint or secular perspective, hypotheses for the name's origin include: its appearance as a geographic name in 2 Maccabees of the Apocrypha ("And Neemias called this thing Naphthar, which is as much as to say, a cleansing: but many men call it Nephi.")

Sorry - I made an excessively snarky comment, which really doesn't help the situation, so I deleted it.

It's amazing how many of those Mesoamerican place names had a parallel in the Vern Holly maps.

Years ago I did an in-depth study of the Vern Holly map due to apologists claims that many of the Holly map names weren’t even known until years after the printing of the Book of Mormon
I studied multiple pre1829 maps of the area around Smith in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania etc. I was able to find most of the Holly map names on those old pre 1829 maps.

The Vern Holley maps caused me a fair degree of consternation back in the day as it has for others. And still does for some. It’s interesting how as time goes on, however, that often these things that were at one time ‘smoking guns’ of one sort or another become less so.
