Really busts right through that "Mormons are such nice people" trope.
Doesn’t sound like the type of prayer a member of the church would offer ‘on the fly’. Anyone check to see if this man was actually LDS and/or if this clip was a charade and not legit?

drumdude, I’m disappointed that you fell for this without a bit more research/inquisitiveness. As it is, however, if I’m wrong and this man is LDS, I’ll stand corrected.

I would need some pretty hard proof. This just doesn’t sound like a prayer a church member would offer up.

The first time I heard the prayer, I didn't think the person offering the prayer was LDS. I just listened again. It's not an LDS prayer. No heavenly father. No thee and thou. No "in the name of Jesus Christ."

MG has a reasonable observation.
I finally went back to the correct episode and watched the whole Montana thing. I do not see the clip making any claim about who the praying individual was. It is clearly in a well practiced EV style and not LDS. Who would know what the individual situation is other than he does not like these street attacks. He could be EV or former EV who is upset about the protesters tactics. I find them repulsive but am unsure what is the best response is or should be . I imagine telling the protestors that they do more to keep Mormons Mormon and insure they do not listen to your type of Christianity. I can remember my Mormon self who would be afraid of these people and would avoid them even when doubting Mormonism.

Later there is a fellow in a red vehicle who challenges them and wants to know if they are a bunch of Trumpers. I doubt the hostile edge to the question comes from an active Mormon, might come from me but perhaps I would think better of it.

I think Mormons do a much more civilized version of proslytizing. In fact I really have difficulty seeing this temple picketing as proselytizing at all.

I can have sympathy for people not liking a residential area building lit up like a football stadium at night. Perhaps a bit of modest could be considered.

So the alternate hypothesis here is that the guy is an evangelical. Who is so angry at the sign that says “Mormon God has a body of flesh and bone” that he pulled over, engaged, swore, condemned them, and then tried to hit them with his car?

I agree the prayer isn’t traditional LDS. But if he is code switching to try and pander to evangelicals then he would try to pray like an evangelical.

Why would a non Mormon get so upset? Would a Mormon pull over and do the same thing for a sign saying Mary isn’t really the mother of God in front of a Catholic Church?

That's what I figured.

The alternative is that a Mormon disrespect the real mode of prayer by saying a real, valid prayer that HF recognizes and then going into cursing. And it wouldn't have successfully trolled them into praying with him.

This was a Mormon -- probably one that has pulled a stunt like this before.

Both people were Mormons. Non religious people do not care about this kind of demonstration. These were direct attacks from Mormons against evangelicals. The disrespect goes both ways. Mormons despise picketing with crude anti Mormon slurs in front of their multimillion dollar temples. That is what draws out the anger. Evangelicals despise Mormon Jesus.

True, but I'd just point out that the phenomena never would have happened if Mormons didn't proselyte so heavily. At the end of the day, it's economics, not theology. You can see EV's turn on each other as demonic if there's a intra-church dispute and a split, or if another ministry down the road is soaking up their members.

Drumdude, ?? why are you not upset about the picketers? I am EV and see them as a grotesque cartoon of EV chasing people away from faith. I would also be truly offended by people protesting stupidly in front of a Catholic church. I mean why make it appear Christians are normally nasty stupid and offensive.

I do not know if the fellow saying get out of the neighborhood is Mormon EV atheist or whatever. I find I sympathize with him but hope I have better controll and decline to take the action he did.

Just to register my feelings, I am offended by the slur against EVs. It may be true of some EV of course.

Religious denominations especially Mormons ate their own during covid. The mask/vaccine issues polarized almost every congregation. When Mormons see protests at temples or conferences their minds go to Westboro Babtist church protests. God hates fags. Your soldiers deserved to die. And Mormons hate hate hate bad press. Despite the fact WBC really lives closely to actual biblical principles.
