In all honesty, I LOVED Witnesses. Although I’m sure I loved it in completely different ways than DCP. It makes me love the film even more knowing that DCP thought it was a good film, much like Ed Wood thought his films all deserved Oscars.

Watching a truly horrible film is one of life’s guilty pleasures. Witnesses has brought me much joy, laughter and happiness.

Sometimes. From what I have seen of Witnesses and the screenshots from this new film, they are getting their money’s worth from the production side. The images themselves look very nice and polished.

I would love to see a film with that production quality which showed an unbiased realistic portrayal of the history. Perhaps we’ll get it someday, just not through this self proclaimed “defender of the faith.”

Agreed! It’s a fascinating and little covered piece of American history, at least in cinema.

About the realistic griminess that Dr. Scratch mentioned, this is designed to be a fluff piece for modern Mormon audiences and they want to see a bright and clean past without blemished history or clothing. Send them home feeling good while ensconced in an illusory bubble. Dr. Peterson and the production crew will pump out what the audience wants.

I think it’s about more than that. DCP has lamented on many occasions that Mormonism doesn’t have much artistry associated with it. The MoTab? The cookie cutter temples? Celestial rooms that look like Donald Trump’s closet?

Mormonism doesn’t have all of the artistic output that Catholicism or Islam or Hinduism had. Dan wants to change that, with Mormon cinema.

He wants desperately for the Lord to inspire his film-making to transcend the trite propaganda films of the ward video library and turn the production into a work of art.

He just hasn’t done it yet.

Apparently Moroni did a cameo appearence to Heber a few nights before and told him his work on Earth was done. Did he really have to tell him? Cruel.
