Yeah, and what % of those views came from this board? It’s got to be at least 10%.
I’d imagine a sizeable proportion of the views are from the speakers themselves, and their spouses. Scott Gordon probably accounts for 10% of those views himself!
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Does viewing each talk count as a view of the whole thing? If so each individual viewer might contribute quite a few views.

I believe YouTube counts it as a view if the video runs for 30 seconds. Repeat views get counted. Bots don’t.

So if you watch in segments — few minutes now, a few later — it will be counted multiple times.

It also gets counted if you watch for a minute, get bored, and say, “nope.”

I would guess that the total number of people who watch all or most of the video is a small fraction of what the total views.

I’m pleased to report that, as of about twenty-four hours ago, the streaming version of Saturday’s FAIR conference had received 415 views in Italian and 346 views in English. (I assume that the figures may have increased since then.) It seems that the conference was well worth doing.

So the FAIR folks could each have participated from their own homes/offices and have been just as effective?

Yes. But that wouldn’t justify using donor monies to pay for their Italian vacation. Because they were slighted and overlooked when Nelson took a touring party to Rome for the temple opening, they decided to get the donors to get them there.

What’s funny is that following Nelson’s visit, a big brand new temple launched at great expense. The result is a Rescue effort that was attended by almost nobody. “If you build it they…won’t be arsed” seems to be the learning from this.

On June 8, FAIR Europe 2024 will stop in Salzburg. Here's the speaker list: Keith Erekson (same title as the Rome address), Daniel Peterson (same title as the Rome address), Rene Krywult ("Fear is the path to the dark side - Navigating the shallows of misinformation"), Jennifer Roach Lees (same title as the Rome address), Ben Spackman ("Science and Scripture: Friends, Enemies, or Other?"), and Scott Gordon (same title as the Rome address). It's not clear whether Brother Krywult is simply repeating the FAIR conference paper he delivered in 2019.
Several repeat presentations tomorrow. Still, I hope at least 30 saints in the Salzburg area attend.

It's too late for the European Vacation donors to ask for a refund.

DCP wrote:The in-person turnout for the FAIR conference in Rome a week ago was, frankly, disappointing — although, already about a day after it had concluded, I was told that its online viewership was in the range of roughly eight hundred. Attendance in person at today’s conference in Salzburg — see the program here — was probably about fifty or sixty, and the streaming audience was larger than that (although I don’t yet know how much larger it was). The audience here in Austria was much more engaged, it seems to me, than last week’s audience. Or, as one of our group observed, they were far more “in the FAIR space” than the attendees in Rome were. We even had a woman in attendance today who came all the way from Hungary via an overnight bus.

I had nothing to do with organizing this current series of three European FAIR conferences — I was simply invited to participate in them — but I think that I’ll say something about how they’ve happened, at least as I understand the story: A very generous American couple with the means and with strong ties (including, but not limited to, both youthful and senior missions) to Italy came forward with the idea of sponsoring a FAIR conference in Rome. (They previously sponsored the conferences in Rome and Milan mentioned above, and I think that there have been other such events that they have supported.) If I’m not mistaken, FAIR didn’t approach them; they approached FAIR. (And they were with us in Rome this time, too.) And, since we would already be over here for the Rome conference, they kindly also covered similar events in Salzburg (today) and Göteborg (a week from today). It’s not a matter, as my admirers over at the Peterson Obsession Board like to imagine, of my wringing money out of hapless donors in order to fund a European vacation for me. Just to be clear.
I wonder how these very generous donors feel about paying for Daniel to repeat verbatim a decade past lecture that could already be easily accessed for free. Or did they just say "Hey Dan, can you play your greatest hits? Nothing new, please."

I agree not very satisfying.

Too bad that Morocco is not in Europe.
(sorry if this is too obtuse)
