This was a popular joke on my mission. Replace “bishop” with “mission president” and “young person” with “missionary.” I am sure there are different versions of the same hilarious joke.
DCP probably exchanged texts like these asking young men about masturbation

Maybe the original post came from you? I would be interested to know your views on this point, dealing with the apparent lack of awareness of what young women might be doing:

Initially the draft included both men and women. The reference to women, it is said, was struck out because Queen Victoria insisted that women would never, ever, do such a thing. As a result lesbian women were free to live their lives without interference from the law, while their male counterparts were ruthlessly hounded until the law was eventually repealed in the 20th century. Could the Brethren be influenced by Victoria's example?

I didn't know women could do that until I was at uni. I was on the bus and two of my dorm mates (if you like) were on the bus and they had bought some personal items and were talking about them. I was like what does that mean? What are you talking about? They said it was like scratching an itch. Lol. I hadn't heard of other LDS females doing that. Interesting that Queen Victoria said that. Do you think it was that she believed women wouldn't or that she wanted to let women do it? What about when women used to go to the doctor to be cured of hysteria?Chap wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:45 amWhat was that exchange with an imaginary bishop that someone posted here a long while back?
Bishop: "Do you have a problem with masturbation"
Young person: "Nope. Works every time!"
And a question: why is it assumed that this "problem" only concerns young men? Could it be that the Brethren are completely unaware of the fact that many young women have also discovered how to do it, and do so not infrequently?

Like IWMP says above, perhaps Victoria was that much smarter than the men around her, who believed what she wanted them to believe. In any case, I have long believed that Mormon sexual culture was very much stuck in Victorian attitudes and ideas, if not worse.Chap wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 12:47 pmIn the 19th century UK, an act of Parliament was drafted making it illegal to take part in same-sex physical erotic acts. Yep, just like they are stuck in 1950's prophetic thinking and social reality and scripture issues...Kishkumen wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:25 pmLike IWMP says above, perhaps Victoria was that much smarter than the men around her, who believed what she wanted them to believe. I’m still confused. Does he want the bishop to help him refrain from masturbation, or to help him engage in masturbation?
So many questions.
