I agree with Conway. Of course, his manifest hatred of Trump will undermine his credibility, and the fact that his wife is one of Trump’s goons doesn’t help either.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 3:23 amGeorge Conway has put his money where his mouth is. Totally on topic.

I'm not sure what you meant here. Did you mean Conway's manifest hatred of Trump will undermine whose credibility--Trump's or Conway's? And that his wife is one of Trump's goons doesn't help whom or what? Trump or the Democrat nominee (whoever that turns out to be)?Kishkumen wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:53 amI agree with Conway. Conway is an obvious hater of Trump. No trace of impartiality there. He really, really hates Trump, so his public tearing down of Trump is a little less credible for that reason. It is not that I disbelieve him; the problem is that lots of people will assume this is coming from TDS.Gunnar wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 7:22 pmI'm not sure what you meant here. No worries! Sometimes I am too brief. Not that I am often accused of such.

So I have enjoyed Conway and The Lincoln Project, but here is my cynical take. They aren’t voting for the guy, they don’t want to work for the guy, but they are ultimately political consultants and such. Democrats aren’t employing these guys. I worked briefly, like two months doing IT support in 2002, at an ad agency that served a lot of Utah Republicans. When you make an ad for a candidate and you get it printed, placed in the newspaper, or run on tv, etc. Typically the agency charges the candidate for the creative and they pay the newspaper or printing press/mailer. So let’s say a mailer costs $97,000, the agency charges the campaign/candidate $100,000 for the mailer, and maybe 10 hours for the work designing the mailer. They get a commission essentially on the media buys. This was also true at another ad/web agency for normal clients and for a few rare political candidates we served. The newspapers and mailers/print shops would make it worth the end person using the agency which did simplify and helped things cause we spoke their language cause if they tried to just get the creative work they would charge them and the same $100,000, if not more.
So it’s a bit like the church pays an employee X, but they know that employee needs to have a current recommend usually and so they get 1/10 of X back.

Yeah, they are Republicans! That is why Democrats aren't employing them. They are much more valuable as unhappy Republicans than as converts to the Democrats. Hey, they could have always sold out like J.D. Vance. They chose not to, and that is good enough for me.

Yeah, I just don’t want to necessarily give them any money.

The folks at the Lincoln Project are problematic in that they played the Machiavellian games on behalf of Republicans that gave us Trump. When Culty drones on about working class folks and whatnot, he is regurgitating up the propaganda used to attack government that fed modern populist resentment of any form of government crafted by those folks and deployed as part of a broad party strategy. They had no issue selling how bad government was knowing full well that it couldn't be delivered on by any sane candidate as it was essentially packaged anarchy. Steve Schmidt correctly describes it as a form of nuclear bomb deployed as a tactic with zero belief anyone would've been dumb enough to actually set it off. Turned out those folks could only stomach so many elections where it seemed no one was actually doing the things they claimed needed doing. It's insane gamesmanship that brought democracy to the brink. Damn straight they should be sinking their resources and reputations into undoing that damage.

I don’t give them my money, but I am happy to have them attack Trump.
Reagan pioneered the “government is the problem” approach. It was wildly successful.
