The Never Trumper Republicans aren't thrilled, and I am not surprised about that. The Progressives are over the moon, and that is understandable too.

Perhaps the Muslims in Michigan would have stayed on the sidelines if Shapiro had been the pick?

I think if you're on the more progressive end of the party you should be elated here. Not just for Walz's record on the specific topics but also in that he got his agenda through often on razor thin margins and has a reputation for explaining his ideas well to folks that might otherwise be closed off to them. This likely shows what Harris and team are planning for if they win.

I think if you believe VP choice matters for rounding out a ticket you're maybe less happy. Like I mentioned up thread (or somewhere on all these topics) it is less clear how much the Veep choice actually matters when it comes to changing election outcomes statistically. Between Harris's more progressive bent, Kelly's necessary Senate seat, Shapiro's baggage, and both Kelly and Shapiro's more centrist bent I probably shouldn't be too surprised.

At the end of the day what really matters is how well candidates work together as a team. After meeting and all the vetting you see where she landed. Time may yet show us why she picked as she did.

Indeed. Walz is definitely a rising star, and he has had a lot of success in Minnesota. He is kinda like Bernie but he seems to have achieved a lot more in a lot less time than the Bern.

The anti-Trump conservatives are pretty angry, it seems. I just wonder whether they are a statistically significant group. If every Haley supporter waited around to see who Harris would pick as Veep, maybe. I am doubtful, though.

Reporting also includes he and Harris connected well. I'm glad if that's so. I think Biden chose Harris for his ability to work with her over electoral politics, if maybe courting voters generally. And that worked well. I'm for Presidential candidates picking VPs they want to work with.

According to Wikipedia, “While in Congress, Walz was a strong supporter of gun rights and was endorsed by the NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) multiple times, receiving an A grade from the organization.”

He seems like a well rounded politician, not as polarizing as someone like say, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
