Re: Weird
Trump posted almost 100 times yesterday on his platform with a variety of Qanon memes and crazy blabberings.
That’s literally weird. That’s why politics is awful; not when people call an odd duck odd.

Re: Weird
I beg to differ. The contest between who is the weirdest is just mudslinging and usually suppresses voter turnout. This study found this to be the case in Senate elections:Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:40 pmTrump posted almost 100 times yesterday on his platform with a variety of Qanon memes and crazy blabberings.

The mudslinging variable is also statistically significant, and the negative sign conforms to our expectations. The results demonstrate that when managers perceive the opponent as a mudslinger and believe that the media are focusing excessively on mudslinging, turnout declines. That is, voters exposed to such campaigns are less likely to vote in Senate elections, ceteris paribus. Especially noteworthy is the fact that the mudslinging variable reaches substantive and statistical significance, while controlling for the proportion of negative to positive information emanating from the candidates and the news media.
Biden won due to high voter turnout:Finally, we show that responses to the negativity of campaigns depend on political predispositions. Specifically, campaign tone is more consequential for independents, people with less interest in politics, and people with less knowledge about politics. When the proportion of legitimate criticism in the news increases, these groups are more likely to participate in the election. They also are adversely affected by mudslinging. When campaign rhetoric is uncivil and inappropriate, they are likely to abstain from the political process.

However, and this may show why there is an embrace of the weirdness mudslinging:

Re: Weird
I always find it aggravating when people find their voices when someone expresses an opinion they don’t like, but don’t call out the powerful for those very behaviors that's being pointed out. I hope Trump’s behavior is too much for you, to the point you won’t support him.
But, yes. In principle I agree with you. Unfortunately I’m a little stinker, and find it weird that Trump claims:

This is, of course, another lie. And I find it weird that people would make a malignant narcissist President.… I went down in a helicopter with him [Willie Brown]. We thought maybe this is the end. We were in a helicopter going to a certain location together, and there was an emergency landing…

Re: Weird
Also, you don’t think it’s weird if someone posts a 100 times in a day on a social platform posting Qanon memes and raving unintelligibly? Like, if you had a friend who was doing that, wouldn’t you find that weird?

Re: Weird
Like I've said many times, I like Kennedy in this race. He doesn't seem to be beholding to anyone. I don't trust Trump. He is always out for himself and is probably thinking of a way to brand the assassination attempt as I write this. His first administration, when he wasn't fending off the russiagate nonsense, was about rebranding and I don't think he did well during covid. Harris seems like too much of a puppet of her benefactors and doesn't seem like someone that will garner any support other than the anti-Trump support that propelled Biden.
So, carry on. Republicans and Democrats are so weird ....

Re: Weird
I'm personally not a big fan of Walz and the "weird" thing. Or his couch zinger for that matter.
We already have two childish name-calling politicians in the race. I'd prefer it if we didn't have a 3rd. I get it from the PACs, and social media foot soldiers, but from someone who is going to be in a leadership position in the most powerful nation on earth, it just seems off-putting.
There's a fine line between pointing out the problematic aspects of candidates, and bullying -- and this seems to bulldoze right over that line.
Perhaps I'm just burned out, where "ordinary" is suddenly noteworthy... when a nation of 1/3 billion people should be able to produce something a bit more extraordinary. For once, just once in my life, I'd like a Jimmy Carter, or Dwight Eisenhower. I'm so exhausted voting against people, rather than for people.
(And yes, I am aware of my own hypocrisy here, and I am sure I'll give myself the stink eye at the next reflective surface I encounter.)

You said you beg to differ. I’d like to know if you think posting 100 times in one day, Qanon memes and babbling like a baboon isn’t weird?Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 7:25 pmLike I've said many times, I like Kennedy in this race. Re: Weird
Trump hung out with YouTube celebrity Adin Ross who literate sniffs the seats of his guest chair after an “Alpha male” has visited him. Ross gave Trump a cybertruck, a rolex, and something else, I forget, that was expensive. Also, Ross was repeatedly banned from Twitch for using racial slurs before being permanently banned last year after featuring a chat stream where users spammed racial and antisemitic slurs.
Is that weird for a President to do? Or is that normal?

Trump was polling the crowd in Montana on what lines of attack he can use on Biden.
Bro. It’s damned weird he’s still campaigning against Biden.
