Members and some apologists have speculated the reasons Mormons are disliked. They have claimed that there is confusion regarding Polygamy. This kind of behavior is almost never mentioned. Mormons have a track record of being terrible neighbors.

They most likely own land around the temple they can either sell or develop. I know they did that for the Redlands CA. temple. They owned orange groves and the PH quorums had to pick oranges. The land where we did that is now developed.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 5:31 amIf you look where they want to build temples it’s likely where there is a lot of traffic so all those driving by can see this huge white building all lit up. I’m sure it’s sort of a new missionary tool.markc wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 3:42 amCan someone tell me why the LDS church insists on that particular spot with that height/size?
I really don't understand. Fairview wasn't saying "You can't have your temple!" They said, "You're welcome to build one that's either shorter at that spot, or the size you like at another spot of the town." Why does the church insist on breaking their rules and try to sue them? What's so particular about that spot? And that size?
That reminds me of my kids when they were little throwing temper tantrums, "I want it! I want it! I want it!"
Am I missing something? Maybe there's something I didn't see?
Here in so ca is the Redlands Temple, they built a Newport Beach and now one coming to Yorba Linda. All are really nice residential type areas, in high rent districts so to speak. The average price of a home in Newport beach is 5 million dollars, and Yorba Linda is around 1.5 million....Redlands is around 700K, but if you erase the north side of Redlands (the other side of the freeway) it is probably a million+-. I just did a zillow search of the small tract homes next to the Redlands temple and they go for about 750K, while the larger homes with property(orange and avocado groves)goes for who knows how much. The billionaire couple that produced the software for gps/maps lives about mile down the road from the temple. I googled Fairview and the average home there is 700K or so, while the average price of a home in the US, is just over 416K. Point being, we all know their targets are those with $.
Why not build temples is the lower income neighborhoods where zoning would be less of an issue, and where poor folks could "worship."

agree, and 10% of a person that can afford a 5 million dollar home is much mor lucrative that one that only rents and lives paycheck to paycheck,

Doubt they will get very far. They don't have a legal leg to stand on.markc wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 4:34 pmYuck.Rivendale wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 3:42 pmIt appears two LDS members are suing the town of Fairview for preventing their right to worship. https://www.kltv.com/2024/08/08/rea ... t-denied/ . I wonder if the church urged a few members to do it. They did something similar with one of the Hofmann forgeries. They had a member buy them then donate it to the church.
Can't believe some can be so blind and go down to this level.

Can the Church really have members do their work for them? Don't plaintiffs need to have some standing in the suit?Rivendale wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 3:42 pmIt appears two LDS members are suing the town of Fairview for preventing their right to worship. https://www.kltv.com/2024/08/08/rea ... t-denied/ . Let’s say for arguments sake that the church wanted the spire to be 1000 ft tall.
Would it be just as bigoted to protest that height?
I seem to remember a similar conversation like this in the Bible. Will the temple be built at 500ft, oh Lord? How about 250ft?

The lawyer was chastising the council for not being able to have a metric for their esthetic objections. It is like pornography, you know it when you see it.drumdude wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 6:12 amLet’s say for arguments sake that the church wanted the spire to be 1000 ft tall.
