Eye candy at church

What did you guys do as a good Latter-day Saints to avoid temptation when you’d encounter eye candy at church? As I’ve gotten older, my thoughts are if I see something handsome, acknowledge it in my mind, then immediately look away. In other words, don’t linger in looking, thinking about it, or looking back. Today was weird. Eye candy to the left, so employed the look the other way plan, only to find eye candy there too. Finally just focused my gaze on the lady’s hair who was sitting directly in front of me. JST (John 1) on the screen today in my EV church too. Dare I hit submit as I’ll probably regret posting this.

Frankly, I was (and still am) overwhelmingly happy for experience. The fact that eye candy moves amongst us is one of those few things that argues for the concept of a benevolent universe.

I am going to agree with Morley here. I think both appreciation and a bit of thankfulness for beauty is a good thing. That would include beauty which involves sexual attractiveness. In fact I think appreciation and thanks can be a guard against getting carried away and being impolite in staring (or imagination wandering too far along to sexual wishful thinking).

There could be the problem of just plain old distraction if the sermon is dull and too long.

There can be value in shorter sermons, thinking of John Dunne.

Where were you during church, hanging out in the foyer?

Huckleberry summed it up pretty well. The mind tends to wander if you let it, next thing you know appreciation for the human body has turned to lust. Easiest way to avoid that is to look away and redirect your thoughts.

Think I agree with everyone here. I think just acknowledging to your self that someone is attractive and that's ok could stop you over thinking?

I understand shades reply because my initial reaction to the title was the same. I didn't know you were supposed to do anything. I don't feel attracted to people though. I can think of they are dressed nicely or they suit that or they have a well shaven beard but it doesn't extend beyond that. But I can visualise your scenario lol. Made me giggle. Don't you watch the speaker. I tend to watch speakers or watch my kids playing/fidgeting. At the evangelical church, Phoebe used to dance at the front and spin in circles. I'd get stressed but they'd always tell me it's ok when I'd go to get her.

One of the most ridiculous ideas in Christianity is that merely imagining another woman is adultery. This teaching in the Mormon church must have caused endless suffering to young men with normal primate brains. I know it was often a source of guilt and shame for me.
