This guy just gave the medal of freedom to the wife of his biggest donor, and then said it was better than the medal of honor because those recipients are either shot up or dead.
Can we have a print journalism reference to this event, please?

I take it that 'this guy' is Trump. and that he did this while he was President?
Miriam Adelson, wife of former Sheldon Adelson, has pledged 100 million dollars to the Trump campaign making her worthy of the Presidential Medal of Honor.

Type Miriam Adelson into Google News and read many stories about it.

While honor to Trump might not mean accolades from the Mankato West High School football team, the $ sign still sparkles in his eye.

Has Binger left the forum? I just noticed when clicking his name it says "user does not exist."
It's not unsurprising. Biden freezing on stage and an amateurish assassination attempt back-to-back made him look artificially powerful. It really felt like game over to me and I'm sure that others on this forum who wish to live in something other than a police state ran by a right-wing think tank felt similarly doomed. Binger took advantage of the moment and pretended to convert to Trump to get in our faces and flip the bird. But he didn't retain much momentum from those events, and then Biden dropped out, and suddenly there was all this Kamala momentum, which I definitely didn't predict. At that point, Binger didn't have a play. Trump could still win, but there isn't that same feeling that it's a sure thing, and going all in as a fake convert for trolling and then losing is way worse than actually being a legit Trump supporter and losing, and so he opted not to risk it.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

It's amazing how fast everything can change. Trump is beating Kamala again in the betting odds, I'm guessing because the DNC has been a little lackluster? Or maybe just a regression toward the mean.

Murphy's Law wanting to put an end to the American democracy experiment? Republicans are fondly remembering how Schindler was able to make a ton of cash in his movie Schindler's List.

Did you watch it or are you just going off what the media you consume told you about it?

Trump being up with slightly better than 1:1 odds ahead of the suspected announcement RFK Jr will drop out and endorse Trump is meh. The odds markets are volatile for reasons. It tells you they think the news cycle will shift his way with the announcement and money is following. It will do something different next week, too.

Setting odds isn't just a matter of predicting the likelihoods of the outcomes on which people bet. Setting odds is a business move on the part of the oddsmakers. An important part of the move is not getting the odds too badly out of line with the actual outcome chances, so that you don't lose a lot of money when too many people take your generous odds and they turn out to win. Another important part of the move, though, is motivating people to bet. A bet with only a slight advantage to the house that many bettors take may give more profit, on average, than a highly advantageous bet for the house that very few bettors take. A highly advantageous bet that many bettors nonetheless take, on the other hand, is the best case, if you can get it. Giving those suckers an even break is just turning down money.

Setting odds on offered bets is a lot like setting prices on goods offered for sale. Production costs are one factor in setting prices, but customer psychology is another one, because high volume at low profit margin can be better than high margin at low volume—or it can be worse, depending on just what the difference in volume turns out to be. Just as sellers may take higher or lower profit margins but rarely set prices below cost, oddsmakers are always trying to set odds that will make them a profit on average, not odds that exactly replicate outcome chances. The discrepancies between odds and outcome chances may be greater or less, though, depending on what the oddsmakers think will bring the highest product of volume and profit margin.

Oddsmakers aren't just placing bets on the outcomes. That's what the customers do.

I was really hyped up for it and felt disappointed. It should be expected given how quickly the party has had to pivot.

I wanted something more like Obama in 2008, that felt really weighty and historic. Kamala still can’t shake the feeling (in my opinion) that she kind of slid in and is still getting her bearings.

The end of her speech was particularly odd for me. “We must be worthy of this moment … our turn to do what generations before have done … uphold the awesome responsibility that comes with the greatest privilege on earth being an American.”

Just compare that with a speech Obama would have made. There’s something different and very jumbled about her message. I can’t put my finger on it.

If you put your finger on it I'd be interested. It is still fresh so time may tell a different story but every person I've spoken to that has been watching the DNC that was on the fence about the process seems very pleased. The forward progress messaging, the attempt to reclaim patriotism, speakers "clapping back" but not in a manner that could be considered too low-road, etc. have all been playing very well. I think the strong ratings were indicative of that too.

I agree that she isn't Obama, but why should we expect her to be? She seems to have her own vision and understanding of how to move forward and I think that is a positive sign.

Edit to add: I'm hearing especially the "joyful warriors" line of messaging playing well with the younger folks in my circles, a small sample size but I've been pleased by some of the more positive takes from those that just a few short months ago were the biggest doomers & gloomers I interacted with.

Just be happy that Binger and his dozen yet-to-appear raccoon sock puppets have not been raiding the garbage cans and ripping down the Harris-Walz signs.

The doom and gloom was palpable, even here on the forum. Many were arguing Biden was irreplicable, and we just have to swallow the inevitable loss.

One disappointing thing I'm seeing is many people rejecting Kamala, who previously said "Anyone but Trump and Biden." Even though I'm not as excited for her as I was for Obama I will still likely be voting for her.
