JD Vance also said unmarried teachers without children are indoctrinating our kids with some nebulous and nefarious liberal agenda.

Somehow I think trying to sow doubt and fear isn’t going to work for this election cycle.
Who said I was trying to “sow doubt and fear”?
I meant Trump and Vance are.

Ah. I hope you are right. I can’t take their grimly unserious threats about others causing trouble the least bit seriously. I hold their incompetence to be a serious threat to everyone.

Yes, but they see the left the same way. As a serious threat to everyone. I think there’s room for nuance here just as there is with Mormonism vs ExMormonism.

The current insanely high amount of polarization in American politics just isn’t healthy. Each side can disagree with the other but demonizing is just going to lead to catastrophe. I think we may find that even if Trump goes away, our problems will continue to get worse. Because the polarization and demonization is the larger problem.

DJT isn’t a side. He is a person. If he has become a side, then he is the problem regardless.

I would consider Trump and his MAGA party similar to a number of political movements with their charismatic leaders. Often the movement outlasts the leader, like with Mormonism.

Mormonism is a religion. If MAGA is a religion, then that’s a problem.

I agree that the delusion is not tied to Trump. The right believing the left is a threat to the world has been a theme for a long time, significantly since Rush Limbaugh. Trump co-opted the delusion and to some degree doesn't even understand the delusion. The non-stop right-wing emails have been around since the Internet began. There is nothing like that on the left, by the way. Also, we must clarify that neither I, Kish, nor you (drum) are "the left" so we should not talk about it as if we are. I mean, guys like my right-wing friend have meltdowns over trans athletes and really, most of the stuff they melt down over has nothing to do with Trump. That will all continue.

MAGA is something different entirely. My bet is that it will die with Trump. I don't think it will outlast Trump. I'm putting my wad of cash down on that. Yes, I think fear-mongering and right-wing junk mail will continue. Trump's unique contribution is taking run-of-the-mill dirty politics and turning it into a non-stop lie and cheat festival. Trump's power has been to convert a great number of people to this kind of politicking and to get others to look the other way. This seems to be the discovery that organizations like Heritage have been searching for, but it never hit home until Trump hit them over the head with it. Now they get it. Now they are all in. The problem they have is what we might call the JD Vance problem. The MAGA personality type is grinding and obnoxious. Nobody likes it, and none of the other MAGA personalities have broad credibility with Republicans. Trump-backed candidates are not typically winners. Trump is an anomaly. Obviously Heritage, the Federalist Society, and these other nut jobs will continue and try to find a way forward. But I don't think it will be MAGA.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

I'm worried about the amount of cosmic irony produced when Trump suggests that someone else is the worst President, will tear a hole in our space-time reality.

Besides being the worst President ever, Trump also holds the record for the most lies told by any world leader. Trump values will cling to the Republican party forever.

Donald Trump wrote: … they [the “poor fools talking about global warming”] weren’t even good students at school. They didn’t even study it.
This is only one notch above saying that they weren’t good boys and girls, they didn’t brush their teeth.

It sounds like dementia. I don’t mean that it just sounds stupid and weird. It sounds like something my relative with dementia might have said, a year or two ago at an earlier stage. You can recognize the intent, in this case to criticize scientific competence, but the only terms the brain can find to express the intent are bizarrely childlike. This really sounds like dementia.
I was a teenager before it was cool.

Very insightful as usual Dean Robbers. The GOP found the useful idiot whose conniving, con-artistic instincts and habits made him the perfect vehicle to try to achieve their regressive agenda. He has been difficult to control, and his political instincts, such that they are, vanish when he looks past his nose, but his cult is rabidly gnawing on the Trump bone day and night.
