*Minor Spoiler*

Most Mormons were unfamiliar with Joseph Smith using his seer stone in a hat to translate the Book of Mormon, until South Park devoted an entire episode about the seer stones/translation of the Book of Mormon. The Church was forced to finally publicly address this issue due to the South Park episode.

Well, in the film Heretic, Hugh Grant discusses several problematic issues in Church history. One of these issues Hugh Grant discusses is the Fanny Alger affair and all the controversy that isn't known to most Mormons. It was a little strange to hear Hugh Grant discuss Fanny Alger. I think Heretic will finally force the Church to publicly address the issue.

I guarantee there are tens of thousands (if not more) of Mormons who watched Heretic this weekend and were busy Googling "Fanny Alger."

They are commenting on a movie they didn't see. Now that takes hubris and a plethora of whataboutism.

 Another great reference from MG 2.0
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Makes you wonder why the Church abandoned the sealing power of a tumble on a haystack. Think of all the sealings the Church could have claimed in the backseat of the old Chevy.
Imagine a roll in the hay being the first recorded Celestial marriage!!! Still, it sounds more dignified and Mormon-like than Joseph just canoodling with one of the serving girls at his house. This could make an interesting display for the Church Museum on the evolution of Temple marriage. A recreation of Joseph on top of Fanny performing the First Sealing would spur museum attendance.

I know Jeff from Hello Saints said he hadn’t seen the movie and wasn’t going to. I don’t remember Jacob Hansen saying the same. If he did would you mind pointing to the time stamp where we can hear him saying he hasn’t seen the movie and doesn’t plan to?

There was a morning FM radio show in LA, perhaps Adam Carolla, that would have a weekly movie critic come on to review movies he hadn't seen. It made for good comedy.

You’re calling Rivendale a liar.

Here’s Peterson’s take..
At least one of them — the Evangelical — hasn’t actually seen the movie, but he says that he has read a great deal about it. In any case, the discussion isn’t entirely about the film as such.

At least one of them.

I suggest you watch your own link, because clearly you haven’t. Yet again.

All I’m asking for is a time stamp. Shouldn’t be hard.

I’m not calling anyone a liar. I’m asking for clarification because I did not hear what he apparently did.

I’d like to know exactly what he heard that made him think Jason Hansen had not seen the movie and was not planning on seeing it if he didn’t.

That’s not a large ‘ask’.

MG
