Step outside and breathe. Hug a child. Serve a neighbor. Take a drive. Read a good book. Have a real life conversation.
Why have you started with the conclusion that people who post here don't do those things? Why have you concluded that you must lead a better life? That's the hallmark of someone who is dissatisfied with their own life but who is trying to make themselves feel better about it. What's amiss in your life? Perhaps we can help?

I would note that suggesting people "Hug a child" sounds a little creepy. If you go around hugging random children then you are a creepy guy and parents should keep their kids well away from you. Your comment is troubling.

In terms your avoidance of putting your money where your mouth is and serving a senior mission, Elder Robert Gay has some wise words for you in his 2020 talk...
“You know, you really don’t get it. The Lord is calling you to save your life. You are either going to live your life by covenant or by convenience. There is never a convenient time to serve. This is a matter of faith. You either believe the Lord will bless your life with the blessings you need as you do His priorities or you don’t.”
Will you forsake your God and not serve? Will you continue to lack the faith that you claim to have?
MG2.0 you only responded to half of my response to you.

So I’ll bump it to see if you will address it…

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Sheesh. A hug is an arm around the back of the shoulder with a little squeeze ON THE UPPER ARM OF THE SHOULDER. My word people!!

And not done everyday frequently. Only when a little compassion is in order...
Oh boy. I'm sure human resources and child protective services had their hands full with you. Is that why you're retired?

Please stop sending crap to Everybody Wang Chung and just let him post the information.
I spent 30 years in elementary school classrooms. I never had any one complain in regards to my behavior towards children. There were times when a child needed additional support and reinforcement. Those reinforcements can come from face-to-face interactions and sometimes just a quick 'shoulder hug' or a hand on the shoulder. Children are not robots. They are in many cases tender souls who are developing a sense of self worth. Positive interactions with adults do a lot to help them develop self confidence.

Your comments show your lack of empathy and understanding towards children and their need for positive reinforcement and healthy relationships with mentors. I saw these kids every day. I knew what was right and wrong in my physical interactions with them.

For you to make a judgment call and say what you have said I find distasteful.

You obviously did not spend time in the classroom with actual students.

When you respond as you do I have even less respect for you.

MG

In your opening post you advocated for board members to “hug a child”. What children, specifically, were you suggesting people should hug?

Will you forsake your God and not serve? Will you continue to lack the faith that you claim to have? To use Elder Gay’s words…will you continue to live your life by convenience rather than by covenant?
This is weird. You have a fixation on missionary service for senior adults and putting everyone into a box. We have sat down with SP and discussed missions. We have determined that we are obligatied right now to take care of our parents. My wife has been giving daily care to her parents for a few years. Her father passed away this last week after much tender and loving care from a daughter. My wife's mother has her own issues and was not able to offer that care.

I only say this because, dude, you are not a judge in Israel or in any way, shape, or form, privileged to give blanket council to all senior couples in the church. When the time is right...and it may be sooner than later now...we will possibly make a determination to serve a mission.

I am tired of folks like you and Marcus riding your high horse as exmormons and placing blame and/or judgements on active members of the church and questioning their actions and behavior.

That says more about you and whatever motives/agendas you have.

Regards,
MG

You've decided to live by convenience not by covenant then. As per Elder Gay. The point I’m making, is that you do not practice what you preach. You’re a hypocrite.

Absolutely. We are not mind readers and I think you ought to be clear about what, exactly, you were suggesting.

There is a time and a season and a purpose for everything under heaven. Go back to Ecclesiastes and do some reading.

I’m not saying it, Elder Gay is. Email him and put him right. And carry on living at your convenience rather than by covenant.
