I can't remember the poster but he/she said those that voted for Trump, at least some, voted to flip the bird at the establishment. I think some might be more than and perhaps why the democrats are in trouble. Rebels or perceived rebels have a lot of cache and Trump appeals to them ... until they tire of him.

Re: The Great Biden Distraction
I get the strong impression that it doesn't even occur to Trump that there is anything inherently wrong with his corruption, lying and violating his contracts, treaties, oaths and promises as long as he can get away with it with almost complete impunity. To him, it only proves how smart he is. He regards those who are honest and fair in their dealings with him and honor their contracts and promises as suckers whom he can easily exploit to his own purely selfish and avaricious advantage. He has already demonstrated that he will give lip service to any oath or promise that will get others to trust him long enough to successfully exploit them, with no real commitment to actually continue honoring them should he regard them as inconvenient to his selfish ends.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Precisely. For him, everybody who does not put their personal benefit over and above anything else and everybody else is a "loser". That's the message he got from his father during his time as a kid in what seems to have been a pretty nasty family setting.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 8:09 amI get the strong impression that it doesn't even occur to Trump that there is anything inherently wrong with his corruption, lying and violating his contracts, treaties and promises as long as he can get away with it with almost complete impunity. So for instance young US soldiers in WWII who prioritised doing their sworn duty to their country and their comrades rather than prioritising their personal survival, and as a result ended their short lives in war graves in France were "losers" who Trump thought were not worth the trouble of a visit on a wet day ...
The opposite of being a "loser" is to be "smart". Thus, when Clinton pointed out during a Presidential debate that Trump, unlike the huge mass of hard-working Americans, seemed to have paid little or no tax, he boasted "That just shows that I am smart"!

Unfortunately, too many Americans do not see that it takes taxes to run things and that taxes are Constitutional. My dad is one of them. He holds federal income tax to be unconstitutional, and he will not be disabused of that view.Chap wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 8:57 amPrecisely. The people want populism. Sanders hit the nerve back in 2016 and the establishment couldn't have someone in office that would have actually worked for the people, at least that is how he seemed to be at the time. Who knows if he would have been intimidated or coerced into doing the same thing they all do had he got in.

Re: The Great Biden Distraction
The institutional effectiveness of the DNC's primary process worked against it in the end. The party was able to fend off its populist outsider, but that just facilitated the election of the only populist option in the election, Trump. It is one of those things that, in retrospect, is truly infuriating. Hillary Clinton was the capable candidate who, at the same time, was a poor campaigner. She was exactly the wrong candidate for the moment, but Democrats insisted on running her anyway. To date, the Democratic Party is piss poor at motivating the people it claims to care about.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 6:54 pmThe people want populism. Have you ever noticed that the farther Markk gets backed into, not having a clue what he's talking about, the more he "Lol!"s?
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

I can't remember the moment I realized talking to Trump fans was a useless endeavor. It might even have been before Trump was in politics, when these people were just rudderless liars.
You can't have a rational conversation with irrational people. You can't have an honest conversation with dishonest people. You can't have a smart conversation with stupid people. You can't have a good faith conversation with bad faith people.
These are my main takeaways from talking to GOP voters.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.
