I would have **loved** to attend a protest! Good on you guys who did! The initial estimates said approx. 5 million protestors. Not sure how many there actually were. I did hear that "hundreds" attended the DC parade (if that's accurate) so there is that for contrast.

I live in a small university town in one of the reddest states in the country. My wife and I walked over to the protest that was held in the park that's a few of blocks from our house. I hate the bombast and the crowds of these things, but really felt like I needed to be there to support the effort. With hundreds of people, it was surprisingly well attended. I wish I thought that it would make a difference.
It’s worth trying, at any rate. I understand your feelings about it. I have been pushed to the point that I feel I must. This was my first in-person protest.

Like you, I live in a very red county of a very red state (~72% for Trump in this last election). I was pleasantly surprised by our turnout. A diverse crowd filling one of our larger parks for the better part of a hot and muggy afternoon is nothing to scoff at around these parts. Talking to the organizers the number was close to 1,200 in attendance.

I was also pleased with how little pushback there was. At one point the police asked a gent to leave who came in full MAGA garb, carrying a loaded up duffel bag (of what I know not) who was antagonizing folks. Other than that, 3 or 4 young men stood across the street with counter-protest signs, and the occasional barely audible string of epithets from a passing car was all.

Again, perhaps it will change nothing... but what can you do but try.

I didn't see any counter-protesters. They may have been somewhere in the vicinity, but I don't recall seeing one. Of course, I live in a blue bubble in a sea of red. Few places in Florida are bluer than my town. That does not mean I do not see MAGA folk all the time, but I doubt they saw the point of opposing the No Kings rally in a blue bubble.

I also did not see any police officers, which makes sense, as everything was perfectly peaceful.

I'm glad to hear yours was uneventful on the counter side of things.

Ours was very minimal, I think just to ensure nothing got out of hand. The park that it was held in covers about a city block and butts up against a major thoroughfare. I only clocked about 5 officers total, mostly setup at two opposite ends of the park. The only person I saw them interact with for anything beside pleasantries was the gent with the bag.

I feel bad that people are going to get hurt standing up to the new Fascist regime in Trumplandia. The Fascists have been stockpiling guns for years, and they have no moral strictures holding them back. There is a sizeable group of voters who never cast ballots for Trump, so they are innocent victims.

Canada has joined the Mobilize website. https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/793534/

And this is what it looked like in Toronto. Run time is just shy of 2 minutes.
