NPR - Diversity

Post by ceeboo »

NPR Has Zero Republicans and 87 Democrats on Editorial Staff.

First paragraph of the Washington Stand article:

"In a widely publicized op-ed published Tuesday in The Free Press, a senior editor at National Public Radio (NPR) offered a heavy critique of his employer as he revealed that, despite the news organization’s claim that diversity is its “North Star,” its D.C. headquarters has zero Republicans and 87 Democrats among its editorial staff."

I'm all for an affirmative action program for Republicans. Merit based hiring is apparently leaving them behind in some fields.

I think that you should ask how the source determined the political alignment of these unidentified 87 people.

We have DEI for Republicans. It’s called the Trump Administration. It allows all sorts of criminals, butthurt bigots and conspiratorial snowflakes a chance to screw with the lives of millions of Americans.

On the DEI note, that letter that the Administration sent to Harvard may just be more ‘DEI-oriented’ than any other DEI directive I’ve seen. : D

They probably just assumed that anyone who is not openly worshipful of Trump or willing to uncritically accept and excuse anything he says or does, no matter how bad, must be a Democrat.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

The question is: why? The answer may be complicated. There are probably more Democrats than MAGA people in journalism, but then it is also the case that Republicans have been running down NPR for a long time. That likely impacts the desire of MAGA Party people to try out for a job there. And, to be even more pointed, the MAGA Party is not really interested in or served well by the facts, so journalism of a legitimate and responsible kind is not going to be as attractive as working for a MAGA propaganda outfit.

Yeah, that too!
