Yes, so long as it isn't mean-spirited or dickish.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 11:21 amDr. Shades, is it permissible in Spirit Paradise to initiate a thread that leans towards parody, spoof, or satire? And if it is, as long as I adhere to the rules and the daily actions taken on the board, can I humorously tease the members of the board?Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 7:34 amRegarding your second sentence, remember how MG 2.0 drove grindael off the board due to the former’s constant questioning of the latter’s supposed—but not proven—methodological assumptions, possible biases, etc. while never engaging the actual substance of what grindael posted? Well beforehand, such content was considered ON topic, annoying as it was, and wasn’t split. Thanks to Res Ipsa’s suggestion, such content is now considered OFF topic and will be counted as a derail, possibly hostile, and split into its own thread.
Regarding your first sentence, that’s correct, because MG 2.0 now gets the same protection that grindael should’ve gotten. That’s what I wanted people to be careful what they wished for, uh, about.
Nevertheless, hostile derailments can or will be split off just like they always were. The only difference is, as I explained, there’s now another category of post that will now be considered a hostile derailment. All previous categories remain in force, too.

Essentially, the determination of what is deemed mean-spirited or "dickish" rests with Canpakes, as it permits the more progressive members of the board to exhibit such behavior consistently and without consequence. Canpakes does not enforce the rules equitably.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 4:25 pmYes, so long as it isn't mean-spirited or dickish.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 11:21 amDr. Shades, is it permissible in Spirit Paradise to initiate a thread that leans towards parody, spoof, or satire? And if it is, as long as I adhere to the rules and the daily actions taken on the board, can I humorously tease the members of the board?
For example, if I share an image without any accompanying text, Canpakes automatically places that picture in a thread specifically designated for posts he considers to be against the rules. However, Dr. Cam and every Wang Chung consistently share images without ever receiving any communication from Canpakes.
In the past month, Kishkumen and Schmo have made jokes that could be considered mean-spirited, while Canpakes has not made any effort to address their behavior. However, if I initiate a thread featuring a crude joke in an effort to humorously achieve the same result, Canpakes deletes my thread.
Canpakes lets his fellow progressives bend the rules frequently, yet when Marrk forgets just once to provide a link to a video, Canpakes swiftly highlights it in red to ensure everyone is aware of his so-called transgression.
This is the introduction to my thread. Is this unkind or "dickish"? And if it is, why are progressives permitted to be unkind and "dickish" without facing any repercussions?

It's been pretty clear for a while now that manipulating people's usernames into rude parodies is not in the spirit of our rules.

OOPS!! For some reason I was thinking you were referring to the Super Spirit Paradise forum, which would be equivalent to our Mormonism-related Celestial Forum. Go ahead and post in the Spirit Paradise forum, just so long as it's like you say and only a parody as opposed to a blatant personal attack.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 6:37 pmEssentially, the determination of what is deemed mean-spirited or "dickish" rests with Canpakes, as it permits the more progressive members of the board to exhibit such behavior consistently and without consequence. I appreciate you taking the time to consider my complaint and for ensuring that the rules are applied fairly, regardless of the political or religious affiliations of the participants on your free speech board. You are undoubtedly both kind and knowledgeable!Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 5:25 amOOPS!! Re: Rules and Moderator information
Canpakes, I’m bringing this question to your attention in the moderator thread, as I believe you may have missed my previous three inquiries on the board over the last day and a half. Could you please revert my thread to its original state in the main body of spirit paradise? I’m inquiring because I’m uncertain if you are able to proceed with that action. It is possible that a moderator can remove threads but lacks the capability to restore them. I have not served as a moderator myself, so please let us know if it is indeed feasible to reverse a moderator's actions. If that’s the case, I’ll simply repost the thread, resulting in it appearing in two locations simultaneously on the same forum, something I’m certain Dr. Shades would not find favorable. Thank you once more!canpakes wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 9:44 pmI can’t elaborate at the moment on particular measures taken, but I will mention that there may be a few of these modified posts still out there that the mod team hasn’t noticed yet. Please continue to report them, and we’ll fix ‘em.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 9:40 pm
Well. He’s up to 19 now. What’s the limit for mislinking in one day, you know, for science, before the moderators want to make a decision at the round table?

I’ve restored two posts above that you added in support of your argument, but that you then deleted.
Those two posts were from a thread that you started with a focus on ‘parodying’ Doc Cam and others. That thread was combined with your derail ‘parodying’ Schmo in another thread. The posts above that you deleted probably did not support the point you thought that you were making, hence your backtracking.
You recently created a third thread ‘parodying’ Doc Cam and others, even including mention of a moderator who you have never interacted with … at least, not under your present user name.
All three derails and parodies are presently combined into a thread that you can use to parody anyone, as often as you’d like. I’ll even move your upcoming parody of Ceeboo into the same thread, so that the forum will know precisely where to go to enjoy your work.
Years ago, someone on the board created a thread entitled, ‘Draw Your Favorite MDB Poster’, or somesuch. It was excellent (still is, actually, aside from many of the images being no longer available due to some of the image hosting sites no longer being in existence. Yes, the thread is that old). But this self-reflective, comical and occasionally parodical journey through the crowd of regulars (1) didn’t always attempt to push up against the line of personal attack, and (2) took place in one thread, instead of drawings posted singularly as new threads for each.
That example, and the fact that the board is not served well by hosting regular, passive-aggressive ‘parodies’ of other members that someone has a beef with, are why your parody contributions have been given the elevated status and singular, purpose-oriented thread that now exists. It’s a win-win for all. : )
