Oh. So it is evil to ask why an area like that had no early warning system for flash floods?
He said, "under the circumstances'. Folks seem to be prejudging things and placing blame on others. I think the President is simply saying, 'screw you people', get a life! Everyone knows this was a disaster. To go pointing fingers at Trump...because he's Trump...is a bit foolhardy, at least in this instance. There were other factors at play.

Trump is known for hyperbole. If he uses the word "evil" he is probably saying that some folks are simply trying to rouse up trouble where it is unnessary to do so in this instance.

As with much that goes on here on this 'obsession' board, I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

MG, I suspect this resonates with you because "screw you people, get a life!" is pretty much how you feel about folks "here on this 'obsession' board."

You probably think we're making mountains out of molehills, the same as critics of Trump are making mountains out of the apparent molehills of a couple of dozen kids drowning.

Hi Morley,
Sure, I do think it is rather evident that many folks on this board make mountains out of molehills.

The tragedy in Texas was just that. A tragedy. That politics is being brought into it is unfortunate.

Chap,
At the end of the day actions speak louder than your words. Trump took the time to visit this impacted area in Texas. Small county/community. Federal support is backing up local response.

There are multiple stories of service and caring that are available to read along with many expressions of hope and faith amidst this natural weather event.

Those such as yourself are free, of course, to dismiss the actions and prayers of all involved, but that doesn't make a stitch of difference in the lives of those impacted.

As you know very well, my post was addressed to Trump's childish and deeply un-Presidential abuse of a journalist who asked for Trump's views of the demand of bereaved families for some explanation of how it was that their loved ones had been given no warning of the impending disaster.

The Washington Post article I cited above showed that there was a warning system that, if it had been activated (as it had been the year before for a much less serious event) might have saved many lives.

The obvious question is - why wasn't it?

To that reasonable query, posed by the journalists on behalf of grieving families, Trump responded with abuse and accusations of 'evil'.

Do you still think it was proper of him to do that, rather than giving a calm and statesman-like response, which he could perfectly well have done?

As a native Texan, I can tell that the culture is to blame. A culture of ignoring government warnings, and not wanting to be “nannied” by the state.

I have watched people scoff at those heeding tornado warnings. These are the people who vote against public infrastructure, including safety sirens.

It’s unfortunate that children paid the price.

As I said, President Trump is prone to hyperbole. He is also prone to shooting off his mouth at times. I'll hand you that.

As it is, the folks down in Texas appreciated his actions and not just/only his words.

For some politicians in the past it was seemingly more words than action.

Something of an understatement of the facts, I'd say. One has to wonder whether he is mentally normal given the weird nonsense he all too frequently inflicts on his hearers.

Sorry - apart from closing down FEMA, what action with any practical relevance to the Texas disaster is Trump proposing to take?

On actions by Trump, in particular wanting to shut down FEMA:

See this extract from a Guardian article:
Coen said the Texas floods had proved Fema’s worth: “This flood is a defining moment and brings clarity for the necessity of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Fema is an essential agency for the federal government to support states and support the American people in their greatest time of need.”

But he said grant cuts had rendered it less effective and may have caused “an unnecessary loss of life” in the Guadalupe River area of the Texas Hill Country, the worst-hit flood region.

“One of the grant programs they cut was the Building Resilient Infrastructure Communities, which was a program that would have funded things like the siren system to line a river like the [Guadalupe] in Kerr county,” he said.

“Not that many people needed to lose their lives if more mitigation measures had been put in place. With the president cutting a grant program that provides federal funding to increase mitigation in the country, it only is foreboding for the future on what could happen to other communities if they don’t mitigate and they don’t have access to federal funds.”

The picture of an agency undermined by the Trump administration’s hostility was corroborated by a former mid-level Fema official, who told the Guardian that staff had left because they felt disrespected.

Do you think they would 'appreciate' what happened as a result of his action in attacking FEMA?
