It was noteworthy that he also used the phrase “Heavenly Mothers”, plural. The notion that God is a polygamist has not been an LDS teaching that I’ve come across. This seems to be another step in orchestrating a return to plural marriage (there was something else recently that I commented on along that line, but for the life of me cannot remember what it was).Rivendale wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 4:11 pmExcept top modern Mormon leaders have not said it directly over the pulpit. In the recent past they seemed to have distanced themselves from eternal polygamy despite the fact the top two leaders are practicing sealed to two women.huckelberry wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 3:53 pmI did not catch anything different than traditional well known LDS teaching.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

It's been one of those teachings that the Brethren of late have tried to hide under a bushel.huckelberry wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 3:53 pmI did not catch anything different than traditional well known LDS teaching.

Today's LDS preaching is so bland. By comparison, the last half of the 20th Century Mormon preachings were a real rodeo.

In terms of believing in an anthropomorphic God, having a heavenly mother makes perfect sense, and since Mormons have never abandoned the concept of spiritual polygamy, it also makes sense that there would be multiple Mothers-in-Heaven.
I doubt this will ever be actively talked about in public since today's Church wants to project an image of normalcy.

The Church News has written up an article about Oaks and his talk in Belgium. Can you guess which part of his talk they forget to mention?

I made this point to an LDS ePologist recently. The LDS church is happy to accept money from the National Association of Evangelicals to fight lawsuits, and they get mad when excluded by Roman Catholics and Evangelicals from Christian PACs, “because we’re Christians too!” There’s an absurd level of PR to not discuss any peculiar doctrine in order to fit in and run in the mainstream Christian circles.
Yet they proudly state any chance they get that “We have the only truth and the restored gospel!” So why would you try to align yourself publicly with the church of the devil and downplay Eternal Mothers, exaltation to godhood, etc?
The doublespeak has to be exhausting for members.

Unfortunately most members (and all apologists) will swallow whole as "true" whatever Church Leaders say today, even if it completely contradicts what they swallowed whole as "true" yesterday. They can about face on something in the blink of an eye and claim, with a straight face, that it's been that new way all along. It's remarkable.Mag’ladroth wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 11:35 amI made this point to an LDS ePologist recently. Yeah, when god declared through Gordon B. that he wasn't sure if he wanted to continue the 'Great Gods Pyramid Program' I'm guessing it disappointed quite a few people. Joseph had put no little effort into laying up ladies for later. Now look at him, all work and no play for a once promising afterlife. Anyway, Maybe god, like everyone else in the program was a little slow in figuring out that multi-level marketing, Ponzi schemes and god pyramids are un-sustainable.

Is this the talk being referred to or is it a different one:huckelberry wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 3:53 pmI did not catch anything different than traditional well known LDS teaching.

If it's this talk, I'm missing what was purportedly said in the clip from reddit.
I'm wondering if someone might point out the time stamp?
Maybe it was another talk? I'm always wary of things being put out on the Internet that are 'shorts' on YouTube or found on a social media site such as reddit.

Your link doesn't work, and you seem to be back to double spacing despite agreeing (finally) to abide by our host's request to not do so.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 4:53 amIs this the talk being referred to or is it a different one:huckelberry wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 3:53 pmI did not catch anything different than traditional well known LDS teaching.
