Im trying to think of when the Brethren last spoke out on something. I think it may have been to do with Covid vaccinations - when instead of trusting their Priesthood they hid away to protect themselves instead of visiting hospitals to offer blessings and healings.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I wonder how Mormon MAGAs reconcile (a) the LDS 1st Presidency--prophets, seers and revelators--telling them to get vaccinated (https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.or ... ugust-2021)--and (b) Trump touting the COVID vaccine as the "gold standard vaccine", "a verifiably safe and effective vaccine", and nothing short of "a modern-day miracle" (https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/br ... ne-summit/), with the extreme right-wing's new anti-vaccine stance and in some cases, attributions to government conspiracy theories? Sure, they had to pivot 180 because it was the Biden Administration that managed the vaccine roll-out and availability, which led to the knee-jerk reaction that the vaccine must be "bad" because Biden "bad".I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 7:40 amI'm trying to think of when the Brethren last spoke out on something. In about 1956 we recognized that our neighborhood was deteriorating. We observed this one Halloween by the nature of the people who came in the guise of ‘Trick or Treat.’ The minority elements were moving into the area where we lived, and many of the old-time families had long since moved away.

Monson and Peterson, just two racists going about their daily lives.“In about 1956 we recognized that our neighborhood was deteriorating. Seeking counsel, I visited with Mark E. Peterson, who for many years had been the General Manager of the Deseret News. O. Preston Robinson, my former professor of marketing at the University of Utah, had succeeded Brother Petersen as the General Manager at the News. As I mentioned to Mark my dilemma, wondering if it would be unfair for me to move, he said simply, ‘Your obligation to that area is concluded. Why don’t you build a house in my ward?’”

Re: Big 15 silent on 'Alligator Alcatraz'
When the current administration rescinded the guideline that prevented raids in houses of worship, did the Church speak out? Or was the special freedom of religion drum they constantly bang on put into the closet and ignored?
As Spanish-speaking branches in the United States dwindle, with members afraid to leave their homes to renew their covenants because of what their fellow "Christians" gleefully voted to have wrought upon them, has the Church spoken out? Or have they given their stamp of approval for xenophobic cruelty through silence? As Iranian Christians who have fled persecution, and are here legally, following legal pathways, are rounded up at their houses of worship, has the Church spoken up?
Looking through the Newsroom archive that's dominated with real estate and public relations fluff pieces, and nothing about the malignant crusade of MAGA, I can't help but be reminded... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The only thing I can think of is an instruction to Bishops to comply with the law. In other words open the doors and shelter nobody. Because that's what Jesus wants, presumably.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 4:37 pmWhen the current administration rescinded the guideline that prevented raids in houses of worship, did the Church speak out? And yet, on 8.4.2020, the second day of the preliminary hearing in the prosecution of Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow, the First Presidency 'reminded' its Church leaders of the "long-standing policy" that those leaders should not "involve themselves in civil or criminal cases regarding members in their units,... without first consulting with Church legal counsel", nor correspond "with court personnel on behalf of criminal defendants and others, including through email."I Have Questions wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 4:42 pmThe only thing I can think of is an instruction to Bishops to comply with the law. So the undocumented immigrant members be damned. The children killed by Chad and Lori be damned. But, the guiding principle: save the Church and its reputation.
That Mormon God is such a mensch!

Yes. The first principle of the Gospel is “Protect the Brethren and the money” everything else is secondary. The Church is now de facto being run by Kirton McConkie.sock puppet wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 6:15 pmAnd yet, on 8.4.2020, the second day of the preliminary hearing in the prosecution of Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow, the First Presidency 'reminded' its Church leaders of the "long-standing policy" that those leaders should not "involve themselves in civil or criminal cases regarding members in their units,... without first consulting with Church legal counsel", nor correspond "with court personnel on behalf of criminal defendants and others, including through email."I Have Questions wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 4:42 pmThe only thing I can think of is an instruction to Bishops to comply with the law. Anecdotally, my nephew is currently serving a Spanish-speaking mission in the US. His last email talked about how one of his recent converts was deported shortly after their baptism. Church meetings have been pretty bare bones because everyone is too afraid to go to church, and getting non-members to talk to the missionaries is pretty difficult because of the fear.
Brought to this land by the hand of the Lord, and removed from this land by the hand of an anti-Christ and his followers.
