LOl...I just learned Marcus is female? Thanks, I did not know that.Morley wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 4:51 pmNo kidding.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 2:59 pmSince Markk opened the can of worms and is off "lol"ing about it, Ill go ahead and say it. The very LAST option Markk has to form a judgement about Marcus's work is to actually read what Marcus has written professionally. There's no chance. If he were to begin today and study the topic the rest of his life, he would not be able to learn enough about Marcus's profession to even make it through a single paragraph Marcus has ever written professionally, let alone form an opinion.
On the other hand, perhaps Markk is right. Maybe someone like Cooper will put together a podcast explaining how Marcus should really be approaching her profession. It could point out all the things that Marcus has missed, things that only a layman with an edgy outsider’s perspective would be willing to see. All of these professional, PhD-level mathematicians think they have at all figured out—but ha!—just wait until the podcast world starts zeroing in on all of their …umm… irrational numbers and stuff.

Ribbing? Lol...You get butt hurt and frustrated per your posts.Morley wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 5:53 pmMarkk, in spite of all the ribbing I give you, I acknowledge that Cooper may be a world-class level podcaster. My only brush with him was the Tucker interview that you recommended--and he didn't do himself any favors there.
I dunno that I'll listen to him, but I will put Cooper on my list of possibilities. I'm not a big podcast consumer, and I hardly ever venture into Youtube country. Both are too slow for me, and it's sometimes difficult to get transcripts of what they're saying. Neither format usually provides references, which irritates the hell out of me--because I like to check what I'm reading--or, I guess, hearing.
You can take it as a compliment that I sat still long enough to watch what I did. I often can't make it through a whole movie that I've been waiting to see.
I do think that non-experts can sometimes be better at explaining things than those who are working in their fields. The verbal presentation of ideas is a whole different bailiwick than the synthesis involved in generating and codifying those same ideas. (For instance, you wouldn't want to sit through any conference session where I was presenting.) Maybe Cooper is one of those proficient communicators. It'd be good if that's so. I agree that we need those people.
It sounds like you listened to the 10 minutes of the podcast I linked, you seem to have softened. I listen to podcasts while I work in shop, mow the lawn, or while in the garden, A good set of head phones and Spotify makes it so easy. but mostly in my commute....and I get it would be great to have access to cf, I have to pause at key quotes, at times, and tell Siri to remind me of what it was so I can check it out later.
I do the same with RFM and Reel, but to ignore how much I learn despite that, would be criminal. There is a very good possibility podcasters gave Trump the election, Rogan, Charlie Kirk, Megyn Kelly, Tucker, Matt Walsh and others may have made the difference, and that is a testimony of how the younger generations, right or wrong form their opinions.

No, I didn’t listen to any Cooper podcast. Probably won’t.

The link I provided was a review of his controversy by a fellow history podcaster who has listened to his podcasts and even collaborated with Darryl and a third history podcaster in making a podcast. The guy I am linking has made a podcast with Cooper, and he thinks Cooper is talented, and he thinks Cooper is misunderstood. Don't tell me to focus if you aren't willing to read my posts.Focus, you haven't even listened to a podcast of who you criticize. You found some criticism for people who probably like you have not listened to his podcasts direct. Your opinions and mind is made up by a huge game of the child's game of telephone.

Why? For it to be true, it must be historical. If it's not historical, the Mopologists will be the first to tell you that it's a waste of time to read. But the average person isn't qualified to read the English translation of an alleged ancient text and determine if the source is ancient or if the events are broadly historical. You can read the book to see if you enjoy it or find it enlightening. The Mopologists are hoping that if you find it moving, that the "Bible writing" sounds enough like scripture, that you will accept it as true, and therefore, as real history. And I would suggest, that if you want to learn and form a personal opinion about the Book of Mormon in full context, that one should, well, read it. I agree it does not need to be a life study. I would also recommend reading the original vs the edited current version. But that is me.
"You must read it for yourself" has become a hallmark of pseudoscience. Just about every pseudoscience platform these days makes sure to tell the audience to judge for themselves, to study it out themselves and make their own decision, and that's because the audience likely isn't qualified to make a determination on the matter, but the friendly, open-minded sales pitch saying the power is in their hands biases in favor.
That is about right. Marcus's work is above your paygrade, and to the extent that you might understand a summary of it, you'd have to rely on sources that break it down into simpler terms, and rely on their interpretations. It's a different matter for Cooper given that his work is made to be accessible to anyone, but I'm not a history buff or a historian, and without consulting other materials as I listen, I have no way of of saying if it's good or bad. Whether I find it entertaining or interesting or even if I learn something, it isn't relevant to our discussion here.Markk wrote:By your logic, why would I have to study Marcus' life work to criticize it, I could just go online and find a reddit and wiki post and know all I need to know....it works for you with Cooper's podcasts.

Apart from that, I read your link, and if you read it also, what exactly did Cooper say that he had a problem with? It's not like I agree with everything Cooper says either, so what exactly did he say that his friend disagreed with and where?

Thinking about Morley's comment about computers and education I could think, why not big increases in education? Computers have placed huge amounts of knowledge at everyone's fingertips. What are alkali bees? Ask Google and information is right there.
But education is not just finding a bunch of information, it is more understanding how the stuff fits together into meaningful relationships. Why did Germany invade Russia with inadequate preparation?
