I think the easy answer is that Hitler after annexing Austria, then Czechoslovakia, and then the big one into France....he actually believed, despite his Generals' opinions, that he could take out Russia in a short few months.

I was talking specifically about the winter war between Finland and the USSR.

I was aware of the reality of that war back when I was in high school back in the 60's when I was a teenager. Were you born before that?

As for the rest of the thread, nothing in that thread altered or changed the fact of the reality of WW2, the evil perfidy of the Nazis and the holocaust they perpetrated or the major campaigns and the resultant tragic loss of lives and the justice of the efforts to defeat the Axis powers and the aftermath of that war for both our side and theirs. These are the relevant takeaways for me. Certainly, there are a lot of details about the war and atrocities and consequences I have yet to learn about that will probably arouse my fascination, when I learn about them, but nothing in the current discussion alters the relevance of the war and the importance of striving our best to never repeat anything like it from ever happening again. Is there any valid justification for disagreement about that?

Markk's comment that "you must have fought in the war if you knew about the war as you claim before I was born" is just ridiculous. It illustrates quite a bit about the further deficiencies of his podcast-based learning method.

My disagreement would be there is a lot to learn in the thread if you want to take the time to do so, and follow the little we say about them out with you own study.

I don't think no one here is disregarding the relevance of the war at all, I am not, and I will add that we are still fighting the war today in many ways, and taking it further WW2 was a by product of WW1. So yes we do not want to ever repeat it, but I think it is relevant to understand that in many ways we are still fighting it....and understanding that is part of not repeating it....if that makes any sense.

It is a shame in my opinion the vast majority of the younger generations have no idea about the history of the two world wars, and how it has and is still shaping word politics and conflicts.
