I don't think so. And you saying so doesn't make it so.

I'm not arguing at all that the deportation operations are squeaky clean in the way things are being implemented. I'm arguing that there was such a a mess to begin with that in order to fix things and move out those that had crossed the border illegally there had to be some sort of drastic action.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 11:31 pmThey are literally picking people up who are here legally, while doing what the law requires. Like the grandfather who went to replace his lost green card. Here legally, granted asylum, doing what the law requires. No criminal record. Kidnapped, and trafficked to another country he wasn't even from.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:38 pmThings do get rather dicy at that point for many of these folks. Hopefully with the increase in funding some of the slow downs to take care of these issues more expeditiously will occur.
Or there's the Iranian Christians who fled persecution, and were here legally, that were kidnapped by federal goons right in front of their church.
The "least of these," the "stranger," the "neighbor" are being swept up, often while doing exactly what the law requires of them, held in abhorrent conditions, being forced to eat like dogs on their knees with hands zip-tied behind them, and being sent off to torture prisons. Soon we'll probably see accounts of children being medicated into compliance, and women being sterilized without their consent, just like last time the Republican god-emperor was in power. Last time the church at least occasionally released a half-hearted news release proclaiming the moral high ground that they liked to pretend to hold.
Now... crickets. Now, as it has become even more abhorrent. Now as it has become even more malignant and vile. Children with cancer being kidnapped and trafficked to foreign lands. American citizen children being held hostage as bargaining chips. What has the Church had to say? Nothing.
There's another time in history that's pretty similar. Someone who dared speak up while the Church was silent was even excommunicated. Surely Mormonism's God isn't as impotent as the leaders consistently make them seem to be.
Maybe ICE just needs to kidnap a few people who pay significant amounts in tithing, or are employed by a wealth management fund, for the Corporation to finally at least pretend to care.
ETA: Sorry for the tone of the above. I thought about trying to edit it, but I don't know that it would do much good. I don't know what description would fit my emotional state. Pissed? Upset? Deeply disappointed and heartbroken watching the support (or at the very least, apathy) for the crusade of abject cruelty being wrought? All I know is it's hard to mask these types of feelings, and I'm not sure I want to or should.
Deporting kids undergoing cancer treatment isn't "drastic action." It's cruel, vile, and unnecessary. Keeping 6 year olds in zip ties, and making them represent themselves in immigration court isn't "drastic action."MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 12:44 amI'm not arguing at all that the deportation operations are squeaky clean in the way things are being implemented. You have access to the same public CBP and DHS data that I have. Which makes your post incredibly bizarre to me.Do you agree that the last administration let illegal immigrants in almost without restraint? Would you agree that this is not the case now?

Let's see you in the cross-hairs of law enforcement/criminal justice and see if you think that due process rights are "a tedious process" that ought to be dispensed with.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:38 pmGranted, when ICE is going after the criminals that have some kind of record/interaction with the law there are 'run of the mill' illegal migrants that get swept up in the raids and may not be in the system. Once they are in a detention facility they become part of the overall data based of illegal immigrants that have come across the border without going through the legal requirements to do so.sock puppet wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:29 pm
And what percent of those convicted are for minor offenses?
1/3 of American citizens have criminal convictions. https://www.ncsl.org/civil-and-criminal ... ortunities. Hit the deport button!!!
Things do get rather dicy at that point for many of these folks. As it was, how ever, millions upon millions of people had come into our country illegally. The problem was created by the last administration.

If it is problematic obtaining due process for ONE person (note: not citizen, person) in the US, then it is potentially problematic for any and all.sock puppet wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 4:48 pmLet's see you in the cross-hairs of law enforcement/criminal justice and see if you think that due process rights are "a tedious process" that ought to be dispensed with.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:38 pm

Are you OK with the millions upon millions that were basically waived/waved into the country during the last administration? Do you think that this problem is better or worse? Also, if there are instances where people are being detained and THEN improperly handled, I'm not excusing that at all. Did any of those types of mishaps happen during the last administration? Say, children being separated from parents and they are, even still, lost and at large? Many of those children having possibly been put into some form of sex trafficking or other horrendous circumstances?Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 3:49 pmDeporting kids undergoing cancer treatment isn't "drastic action." You trying to justify this is so incredibly gross.

Again, CPB and DHS data on border encounters and expulsions is public. In 2024, DHS completed more removals and returns than any FY since 2010. Also, every year the number of "gotaways" decreased. FY 2023 to FY 2024 alone saw a 60% drop.
As someone who was raised Christian, and believes in the Constitution, I think that morally, ethically, and legally it is unequivocally worse now. Just like it was worse last time Trump did this, when women were being sterilized against their will, children were being kidnapped for the sole purpose of prevention through cruelty, and rampant rape and sexual abuse.Do you think that this problem is better or worse?
Your continued attempts to deflect and justify atrocities and abhorrent acts of vile cruelty and malignant xenophobia is duly noted. And still gross. Also, if there are instances where people are being detained and THEN improperly handled, I'm not excusing that at all. At the recent raid at the California cannabis farms there were young people working there that, at least from what I heard, were not paired with their parents and were essentially 'off the radar'. When and how did that happen? Fortunately, they were rounded up with others and will hopefully get to where they should be or need to be.
Are things better at the southern border now than they were during the last administration. Worse?

My goal is to try and understand what is going on. It's been a mess for so many years. It appears as though something is happening rather than very little. The fact that there are so many illegals that are here who are the type of folks we would rather not have on our streets and in our neighborhoods is reason to look at this part of the 'puzzle piece' as doing some real good. Whether or not the other pieces are all 'good' or all 'bad' is a conversation I'm still listening to and trying to see and understand what various 'sides' are saying. Everyone seems to have their own agenda. My agenda is for 'most good with as little harm as possible'.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 10:03 pmAgain, CPB and DHS data on border encounters and expulsions is public. That said, I am ok with any administration following the existing laws regarding immigration, while balancing the needs to be humane. I am also ok with their attempts to pass legislation to adjust those existing laws. With the exception of the one section that would have bypassed one aspect of judicial review.
They certainly could have done better at counteracting the sabotaging anti-American messaging of Trump and his enablers that the border was "open." I can only imagine how much of the border crisis was because of migrants in other countries believing their irresponsible lies.

The silence from the Church at least has the advantage of not trying to justify what's happening.
